Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Will Haller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabian Forlan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Haller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fabian Forlan!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Forlan doesn't manage to clinch there - Haller circles away.

Haller looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Haller content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Forlan can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are battling for position here. Forlan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Forlan wants to sweep here but Haller controlling him for the moment.
Haller wants to control from the top but Forlan keeps moving.
Haller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Forlan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Haller looking to sit in guard and control but Forlan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Haller is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Forlan throwing strikes but missing.
Forlan passes into half guard.
Haller tries to kick Forlan off but Forlan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Haller tries to roll over but Forlan keeps him under control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Haller won't allow Forlan to pass to mount.

Haller looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Forlan moves into range and clinches up with Haller.
Forlan tries for a takedown but Haller manages to get underhooks.

Forlan pulls Haller into guard.
Haller tries to free his leg and advance position but Forlan is retaining full guard.
Forlan looking to control.
Haller won't allow Forlan to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Forlan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Forlan is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Haller postures up.
Haller sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Haller wants to control from the top but Forlan keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Haller tries to clinch up

and Forlan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Haller's guard now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Haller is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Forlan trying to hold on to Haller's head to control him but Haller postures up.
Forlan holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Haller moves nicely into side control.
Forlan looks gassed!

Haller thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Forlan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fabian Forlan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Forlan throws a sloppy head kick and Haller moves out of range easily.

Haller shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Forlan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Haller is one step ahead there.
Haller wants to control from the top but Forlan keeps moving.

Forlan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Haller drops back looking for a leg! Forlan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Forlan manages to kick Haller off! Haller jumps back into Forlan's guard.

Haller wants to control from the top but Forlan keeps moving.
Forlan wants to stand and escape but Haller is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Haller is in close to Forlan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Forlan is looking to stand up but Haller isn't so interested in that idea.
Forlan is breathing heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Forlan with a poor takedown

and Haller decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Forlan's guard.
Haller works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Haller scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Haller decides to return to a standing position.
Haller rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Forlan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Forlan wants to clinch

and Haller counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Haller stands up and beckons Forlan to join him on the feet.

Haller has managed to clinch.
Haller tries for a takedown but Forlan manages to get underhooks.
Haller digs a right hand underneath Forlan's ribcage. Forlan let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Haller lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
A shot in the inside from Forlan.
Forlan goes for a takedown attempt but Haller pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Forlan shoots and misses

and Haller counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Forlan's guard now.
Will Haller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fabian Forlan.

Forlan working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Haller has passed into half guard!
Forlan is trying to maintain the position but Haller is very close to passing his half guard.
Haller prevents Forlan from standing back up.

Haller is looking for a kimura but Forlan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Haller to get the leverage.
Forlan gets back to full guard.
Haller works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Haller seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Forlan is trying to stand.
Haller controlling the action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Haller takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Haller dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Forlan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Haller counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Haller.
Haller with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Haller jumps guard but Forlan stands there with Haller around his waist. Haller gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Forlan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Forlan scores with a takedown into Haller's guard.

Haller has his feet on Forlan's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Haller has a takedown stuffed.
Forlan tries for a takedown but Haller circles away easily
and Haller counters with a big head kick but Forlan shrugs it off.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Forlan is looking to clinch but Haller is avoiding it.
Haller tries a head kick but it misses.
Forlan tries to clinch up.
Forlan tries to clinch but Haller moves away

and Haller counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Forlan looking for a guillotine here but Haller defends easily.
Forlan trying to keep a closed guard but Haller is proving a slippery customer.
Forlan keeping moving, preventing Haller from controlling successfully.

Haller drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Haller jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Forlan looking to control.
Haller is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Forlan working a defensive guard but Haller passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Haller stops Forlan from getting back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Haller throws a left and a right that both miss

and Forlan counters with a single leg into guard. Haller didn't expect that.
Forlan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Haller is keeping the position for now.
Forlan wants to control from the top but Haller keeps moving.
Forlan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Haller holds on and takes a little breather.

Forlan has gone for a leg lock! Haller slips out almost immediately though and dives into Forlan's guard.
Haller postures up.

Forlan looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Haller puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Haller content to control rather than advance.
Haller seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Forlan for as long as he can get away with.
Will Haller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Forlan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Haller jumps into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Will Haller.
Well Haller has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
