PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kim Rhee Daebyeol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy has chosen Battering Ram - 'Come Out and Fight' Irish Folk as his entrance music. Kim Rhee Daebyeol has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kim Rhee Daebyeol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murphy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Murphy unleashes a big counter combination but Daebyeol bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

and Murphy counters with a straight right hand.
Murphy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Daebyeol avoids it really well and circles away.
Daebyeol drops down looking for a counter takedown but Murphy sprawls and moves away.
Murphy tries to land a leg kick but Daebyeol saw it coming and moves away.

Daebyeol pushes Murphy up against the cage in a clinch.

Daebyeol wants the takedown. Murphy is fighting it off but Daebyeol persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Murphy's guard against the cage.

Murphy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Daebyeol can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Murphy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Daebyeol circles away.

Daebyeol shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Murphy sprawls well. Murphy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Daebyeol gets slowly back to his feet.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Daebyeol creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Daebyeol's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That was a close round but I would say that Kim Rhee Daebyeol will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Murphy lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Murphy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Murphy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Daebyeol is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Murphy's half guard.
Murphy wants to stand back up but Daebyeol manages to pass into side control.
Kim Rhee Daebyeol overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Murphy tries to improve position but can't.
Daebyeol lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Murphy can't do much from the bottom here.
Murphy tries to buck Daebyeol off but Daebyeol is having none of it.
Daebyeol wants to lay and pray for a moment but Murphy keeps working.

Daebyeol seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Murphy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Daebyeol. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Daebyeol has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Daebyeol looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Murphy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Daebyeol lands a nice short elbow.
Murphy wants to get back to full guard.

Well, if Daebyeol is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Murphy is trying to maintain the position but Daebyeol is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Murphy doesn't manage to clinch there - Daebyeol circles away.
Daebyeol tries to score a power double leg takedown but Murphy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Daebyeol somewhat.

Murphy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Daebyeol not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kim Rhee Daebyeol.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Daebyeol, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
