PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Means (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Buchanan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Buchanan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buchanan lands a nice shot to the body.

Means closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Means tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Buchanan avoids it.
Buchanan on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Buchanan lands a left hand.
A left hand lands to the body for Buchanan.
Buchanan throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Buchanan landing knees to the head.
Means tries to land knees in the clinch but Buchanan avoids the damage to the body.
Means misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Buchanan.
Buchanan tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Buchanan digs a right hand into Means's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Means's gas tank.
Buchanan lands with a left to the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Buchanan makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Buchanan stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Means is breathing heavily.

Buchanan wants the takedown. Means is fighting it off but Buchanan persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Means's guard against the cage.
Buchanan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Means has momentary wrist control but Buchanan slips an elbow through the middle.
Means knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Buchanan on the ground.
Buchanan advances to half guard.

Means is letting Buchanan control him for a moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Buchanan has hold of Means's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Means tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Buchanan cranks the arm and Means screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Means, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Paul Buchanan!
