PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Eastwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Bruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Eastwood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tommy Bruce!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruce fails with an attempt to clinch.
A shot to the body from Eastwood misses
and Bruce counters with a one-two to the body.

Bruce gets caught napping as Eastwood dives in and scores a takedown. Bruce manages to retain guard.
Eastwood cracks Bruce with a solid left hand.

Eastwood gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Eastwood rushes Bruce and presses him up against the cage.

Eastwood drags the fight down to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Eastwood manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Eastwood misses with a wild body shot.

Eastwood shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bruce napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bruce is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Eastwood is controlling him well.

Bruce wants to get back to his feet but Eastwood drags him back down.

Eastwood stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Bruce tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Eastwood manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Eastwood closes the distance and clinches.
Bruce lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Eastwood backwards.


It looks like James Eastwood has been cut.

Eastwood breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bruce moves in looking to clinch but Eastwood pushes him off.
Bruce is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Eastwood went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bruce tries to clinch but Eastwood moves out of range.
Eastwood throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Bruce makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Tommy Bruce is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Eastwood gets a clinch.
Bruce landing knees to the body.
Eastwood is breathing heavily.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Bruce creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Bruce putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Eastwood in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Bruce breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bruce tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Eastwood manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Eastwood changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Eastwood lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bruce circles away quickly and effectively.
Eastwood keeps the fight on the outside.
Eastwood drops down looking for a counter takedown but Bruce sprawls and moves away.
Bruce tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bruce is looking to clinch.
Eastwood avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bruce tries to clinch up.
Eastwood throws a big counter combination but Bruce scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Bruce clinches with his opponent.

A frustrated look appears on Bruce's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Eastwood blocking some punches.
Bruce blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Eastwood pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eastwood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bruce sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Eastwood somewhat.

Bruce closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bruce tries to break free but Eastwood pushes him back against the cage.
Bruce wants to get back to striking at distance but Eastwood won't allow it.

A nice right hand lands inside from Bruce.

Bruce escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bruce doesn't manage to clinch there - Eastwood circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Eastwood will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on James Eastwood's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Eastwood looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bruce!
Bruce tries to escape but Eastwood is in control.
Eastwood works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Eastwood goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bruce has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Eastwood but great work by Bruce.
Bruce wants to stand but Eastwood has his arm trapped.
Eastwood manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bruce's best efforts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bruce tries to stand but can't do so whilst Eastwood controls his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bruce wants to stand up but Eastwood manages to regain full guard.

Eastwood pushes a forearm under Bruce's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Bruce is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Eastwood!
