PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lino Sloan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Lino Sloan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Lino Sloan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lino Sloan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Alves!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Alves looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
You can see the frustration on Sloan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sloan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Sloan can't do much from the bottom here.
Sloan is looking to regain half guard here but Alves keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloan is trying to control Alves's posture but Alves avoids it.

Sloan sneaks out the side door and pushes Alves away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Alves closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Sloan has one foot on Alves's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Sloan darts in and clinches Alves up against the cage.
Sloan fails to pull guard.
Sloan has had enough of the clinch but Alves keeps him there for the moment.
Sloan lands an elbow inside that Alves shrugs off.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sloan pulls guard effortlessly.
Sloan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Sloan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sloan is looking to stand up but Alves isn't so interested in that idea.
Sloan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground.
Sloan seems keen to control Alves's posture.

Sloan wants to sweep but no luck.
Sloan pulls Alves in close to prevent any damage.
Alves won't allow Sloan to sweep him here.

Sloan lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sloan throws a big right hand that misses.
Sloan advances position into side control!

Sloan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alves, who protects the arm well.
Sloan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Alves tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sloan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sloan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alves is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sloan cracks Alves with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Alves tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Sloan is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Alves has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Alves is trying to reverse the position but instead Sloan has taken his back - oops!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lino Sloan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alves swats away the attempt to clinch by Sloan.
Alves tries a head kick but it misses.
Alves throws a lazy head kick

and Sloan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Alves is trying to escape back to his feet but Sloan uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Sloan is looking to take a break and control but Alves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloan cracks Alves with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Sloan in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Alves is breathing heavily.

Alves is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Sloan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Alves to his feet.
Sloan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sloan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alves can do to turn this around?
Alves throws a sloppy head kick

and Sloan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Sloan working over Alves with some ground and pound. Alves looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Alves has hold of Sloan's hands but Sloan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sloan lands a nice short elbow.
Sloan scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Sloan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Alves's head.

Sloan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Sloan wants to work for an arm triangle but Alves is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Sloan is working for a submission of some sort.

Sloan tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Alves.

Sloan is looking for a kimura here.
Alves blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sloan.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sloan gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Sloan rushes Alves and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Sloan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Matheus Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves throws a half hearted mid kick.
Sloan appears to be looking for a big counter.

Alves scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alves is thwarting Sloan's attempts to control the position.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Sloan is defending well.
Sloan keeps control of the position for the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lino Sloan dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Sloan gets a clinch.

Sloan gets control of Alves's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sloan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sloan has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Alves has passed into side control.

Alves tries for a kimura but Sloan is defending well.
Sloan is trying to control Alves's posture but Alves avoids it.
Alves takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloan manages to get back to half guard.
Sloan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Sloan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloan has control of Alves's left arm, preventing Alves from doing any damage.
Alves won't allow Sloan to get back to his feet.
Sloan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alves's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sloan trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.

Sloan drops back looking for a leg! Alves is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alves manages to kick Sloan off! Sloan jumps back into Alves's guard.
Sloan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Alves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sloan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lino Sloan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sloan trying to control the position from guard on top but Alves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sloan tries to clinch but Alves is having none of it.
Sloan swats away the attempt to clinch by Alves.

Sloan rushes Alves and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sloan wants to get back to striking at distance but Alves won't allow it.

Alves jumps guard and drags Sloan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alves trying to keep a closed guard but Sloan is proving a slippery customer.
Sloan landing some decent shots from guard.
Sloan throws a big elbow that misses.
Sloan trying to control the position from guard on top but Alves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Matheus Alves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lino Sloan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sloan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Alves's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lino Sloan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sloan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
