Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kyle Mortis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Steveson!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mortis keeps the fight on the outside.
Mortis fails to land with a series of punches.

Steveson moves into range and clinches up with Mortis.
Mortis prevents a body shot from Steveson.
Steveson lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Mortis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mortis fails to land with a series of punches.
No joy there for Mortis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Steveson lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Mortis falls off balance throwing a combination

and Steveson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Steveson is stalling in the full guard.
Mortis can't keep his opponent in guard - Steveson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Mortis is looking to get back to is feet but Steveson passes into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mortis is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Steveson prevents Mortis from standing back up.

Steveson avoids the head kick by Mortis.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Steveson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steveson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Steveson won't allow Mortis to get back to his feet.

Mortis is refusing to be controlled, as Steveson sits in half guard.
Steveson thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Mortis to regain full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mortis throws an overhand right that lands on Steveson's shoulder, as Steveson tries to avoid the shot.

Mortis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Steveson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mortis.
Steveson needs to keep his hands up - Mortis had a free shot at his head there.


It looks like Joe Steveson has been cut.

Steveson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Mortis won't allow Steveson to sweep him here.

Mortis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Steveson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mortis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Mortis is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Steveson.
Mortis misses with a jab to the body
and Steveson counters with a right hand to the body.
Mortis cracks Steveson with a good jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Steveson fails with the takedown.
Mortis misses with a two punch combination.
Steveson shoots in and drives through. Mortis sprawls well.

Mortis throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Steveson counter with a right hand.
Mortis stuffs the takedown.
Kyle Mortis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Steveson.
Mortis swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Steveson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mortis!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Steveson wants to control the pace but Mortis is squirming around nicely.
Mortis tries to lock up and control but Steveson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Mortis is working hard here to advance position.
Steveson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mortis is looking to escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Steveson prevents Mortis from getting the reversal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Steveson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mortis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mortis and Steveson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kyle Mortis will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Joe Steveson's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Mortis counters with an inside leg kick.

Mortis fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mortis throws out a loose jab but Steveson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kyle Mortis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mortis throws a series of punches but Steveson avoids them all with ease.

Mortis moves out of range of the body kick.
Mortis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Steveson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mortis's guard.
Mortis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Steveson manages to get himself to full guard.

Steveson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mortis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mortis uses his free foot to push down on Steveson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Steveson.

Steveson is desperately trying to improve his position but Mortis has a good base and remains in mount.
Steveson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Mortis is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Steveson is surviving well by controlling Mortis's body position as best he can.
Mortis looking to control but Steveson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Mortis swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Steveson is now in Mortis's guard. A big mistake from Mortis there, giving up the dominant position!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mortis wants to get back to his feet.

Mortis manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Mortis throws a right hand that Steveson ducks under and follows up with a left that Steveson also avoids with ease.
Mortis stuffs the takedown attempt from Steveson. Steveson gets slowly back to his feet.
Steveson moves out of range of the strikes.
Mortis swings away with a leg kick that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kyle Mortis showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mortis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
