Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sherman Burks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Burks being controlled here, momentarily.

Cruz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Burks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Burks really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cruz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Burks defends it well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burks is trying to control but can't.
Burks wants to get back to his feet.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Burks is trying to pull guard but Cruz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Burks - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Cruz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Burks gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Cruz regains guard.
Burks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Cruz has his feet on Burks's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Cruz gets to his feet. Burks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Burks tries to pull guard but Cruz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Cruz trying to control the position but instead, Burks has worked for underhooks and has pushed Cruz into the cage.
Burks is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sherman Burks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cruz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Burks to keep the fight standing.
Burks has hold of one of Cruz's legs. Cruz is fighting the takedown attempt but Burks gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Cruz manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Burks has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cruz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cruz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Burks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cruz's waist but Cruz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Burks off to one side.
Cruz shoots in for a takedown but Burks shows good takedown defense.

Damian Cruz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Burks cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Cruz stops a takedown attempt from Burks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cruz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cruz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Burks postures up and lands a big shot to Cruz's brow.
Burks is posturing up here but Cruz has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Burks tries to roll out but it's too tight and Burks has to tap! Slick submission there by Cruz!
