PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Drax (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mickey Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Drax!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drax lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Evans shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Drax's guard.
Evans not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Evans throws a strike but Drax rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Evans controlling the position.
Evans really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Drax throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drax wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drax tries to free his leg and advance position but Evans is retaining full guard.
Drax must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Drax got a little sloppy there for a moment and Evans has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Drax has managed to get both his arms back between Evans's legs - danger averted.

Evans will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Drax is looking to stand up but Evans won't let him.
Evans is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Evans seems to be working for a kimura but Drax defends the submission attempt.
Evans takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Drax is trying to control but Evans passes into side control!
Evans takes a little break here. Drax wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Drax wants to get back to his feet.

Drax should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Drax is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Evans asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Evans closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Evans lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Evans has Drax pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Evans pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Drax tumbling to the mat - Evans dives into Drax's guard.
Evans is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Drax can do to turn this around?

Evans connects with a couple of short punches.

Evans stays in close to Drax's body and controls the position.
Evans distracts Drax with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Evans accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Evans is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mickey Evans overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Evans rushes Drax and presses him up against the cage.
Evans has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Drax is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Evans comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Drax has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Evans regains guard immediately.

Evans has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Evans manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Drax manages to get himself to full guard.

Evans seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Evans passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Evans seems to be looking for submissions.
Evans slows the pace down in half guard.
Evans drops an elbow to the side of Drax's head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Drax is defending against the submission attempts here by Evans.

Still in half guard, Evans seems content to control.
Drax has hold of Evans's hands but Evans slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Evans drops an elbow to the side of Drax's head.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Evans is nestled in close to Drax, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mickey Evans dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Evans closes this distance looking for a takedown but Drax circles away.

Evans pushes a forearm under Drax's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Drax is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
