PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Dubois (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Carthew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pierre Dubois!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bobby Carthew!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dubois moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Dubois tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carthew swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've been told by Dubois's head coaches at Private Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Dubois gets caught napping as Carthew dives in and scores a takedown. Dubois manages to retain guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Carthew trying to control the position from guard on top but Dubois is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carthew postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dubois is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Carthew, into his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carthew looking for a sweep. Not yet Carthew, not yet.
Dubois knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carthew on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Carthew has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dubois is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Carthew.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dubois has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Carthew is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Dubois off and has taken his back!

Carthew is looking for the choke from the back position but Dubois is controlling his hands well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carthew throws strikes from the back but Dubois rolls nicely and manages to end up in full guard. Nice work by Dubois.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carthew accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dubois on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Dubois tries to get out of the position.

Dubois kicks Carthew off and gets to his feet.
Dubois leaves Carthew with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dubois tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Carthew manages to circle out of the way.
Dubois's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Dubois duly obliges.


It looks like Bobby Carthew has been cut.
Carthew closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dubois circles away.
Dubois tries to counter by clinching up but Carthew breaks away and moves out of range.
Dubois cracks a nice hook into Carthew's ribs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carthew will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Pierre Dubois has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Carthew.

Dubois closes the distance and clinches.
Dubois lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Dubois is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Carthew takes a shot to the head.
Dubois digs a right hand underneath Carthew's ribcage. Carthew let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Carthew looks winded!
Dubois lands a nice shot to the body.
Nice body punch from Dubois.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Dubois creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Dubois lands a left hand that snaps the head of Carthew backwards.
Dubois lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Carthew backwards.
Dubois lands a left hand that snaps the head of Carthew backwards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carthew fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Dubois drops Carthew with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Carthew! Dubois dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pierre Dubois!
