PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Heaton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pain has closed the distance and engaged Heaton in a clinch.
Pain tries to pull guard but Heaton holds him up against the cage and eventually Pain drops back down to his feet.
Pain drops down looking for an ankle pick but Heaton pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pain fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Heaton instigates a clinch.
A body shot lands from Heaton.
Heaton stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Heaton gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Heaton seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Pain tries to kick Heaton off but Heaton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pain escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Heaton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pain is breathing heavily.
Pain manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Heaton manages to get himself to full guard.
Heaton tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Heaton manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Heaton misses with a wild combination.

Pain decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Heaton is trying to stand.
Heaton tries to kick Pain off in order to stand up. Pain Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Pain is looking to take a break and control but Heaton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pain decides to stand back up. Pain steps back and let's Heaton get back to his feet.
Pain shoots in but no luck this time.

Pain closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Pain jumps guard but Heaton stands there with Pain around his waist. Pain gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Heaton wants a takedown but no success here.

Pain has Heaton pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pain pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Heaton tumbling to the mat - Pain dives into Heaton's guard.

Heaton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Pain trying to control but Heaton is working from the bottom.
Pain throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Pain makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Pain drops back looking for a leg! Heaton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Heaton manages to kick Pain off! Pain jumps back into Heaton's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Max Pain will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Heaton circles away from the clinch attempt

so Heaton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Pain is looking for a triangle but Heaton pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pain really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pain not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Heaton wants to get up but he can't break Pain's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Pain looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pain looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Pain escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Heaton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Heaton wants to stand but Pain has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Pain had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Heaton is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Pain Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Heaton's back instead.
Pain doesn't have the hooks in and Heaton manages to turn into his guard.

Heaton stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Heaton tries to clinch but Pain moves away

and Pain counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Heaton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Heaton moves into range and clinches up with Pain.

Heaton jumps into guard, dragging Pain to the mat.

Pain stands up from Heaton's guard - Pain perhaps looking for a knockout.
Heaton fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pain sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Pain lands a two punch combo.

Heaton looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Pain!

Heaton get's back to his feet.

Heaton tries to clinch but Pain moves out of range.

Pain gets a takedown into half guard.

Pain is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Heaton pushes Pain off looking to stand but Pain dives back in and keeps control.

Heaton is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Pain pulls his head out easily.
Pain is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Pain will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Heaton looks like he's trying to stand up.

Pain stands up and beckons Heaton to join him on the feet.
Heaton scores with a kick to the body.
Pain tries for a takedown but Heaton circles away easily
and Heaton counters with a good, hard body kick but Pain shrugs it off.
A low kick from Pain misses

and Heaton holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Heaton tries to land knees in the clinch but Pain avoids the damage to the body.

Pain breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pain with a poor takedown

and Heaton counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Pain is fighting off a takedown attempt but Heaton is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pain to the mat. Pain regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Heaton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Pain lands with an uppercut that bounces Heaton off the cage and back into rage.
Max Pain is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pain gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Heaton holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Heaton drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pain gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Pain trying to stall but Heaton improves his position.

Heaton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pain uses from the top position.

Heaton seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Pain's chin but Pain turns very nicely into Heaton's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Pain.
