The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Smith.
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Gay bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nice jab there from Gay.
Gay moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Nice uppercut there from Gay.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gay has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Smith misses with a straight left.

Smith slips under a jab from Gay.
Smith rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gay counters with a nice uppercut.
Gay is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Smith.

Smith throws a right hand that Gay ducks under and follows up with a left that Gay also avoids with ease.

and Gay counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Gay looks to land a right hand but Smith moved out of range.
Gay bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

and Gay finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Smith avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Smith needs to keep his hands up - Gay had a free shot at his head there.
Smith is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Gay's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Some bone on bone action there as Smith checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Smith moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gay moves away.
Gay cracks Smith with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Gay has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Gay connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Smith clobbers Gay with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gay lands a leg kick that knocks Smith off balance momentarily.
Smith throws a jab when Gay was well out of range.
Smith is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Smith throws out a loose jab but Gay uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gay tries a head kick but it misses.

Smith appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Gay throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith.
Gay walks into a stiff left hand from Smith.

Gay is rocked!
Smith sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Gay's defenses. It connects perfectly with Gay's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
