PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andy Huber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blake Hromco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andy Huber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Blake Hromco!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Huber darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Hromco kicks off Huber and gets to his feet.

Hromco bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hromco throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Hromco in side control, throwing shots but Huber defends.
Huber looks to move to half guard but instead Hromco has passed into mount! Damn!
Huber really is a fat lump.

Huber is squirming around, avoiding Hromco's attempts to control the action.

Hromco avoids the attempt from Huber to control.
Hromco tries to control but Huber wriggling away.
Huber holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hromco tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Hromco is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Huber sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Hromco not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Huber keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hromco wants to free his trapped foot but Huber is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hromco thows a huge punch but Huber dodges it nicely.

Hromco thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Huber's head.
Hromco is taking a breather. Huber says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hromco has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Huber rushes Hromco and presses him up against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Hromco.

The referee is keeping an eye on Huber - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Hromco escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Hromco shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Huber's guard.
Hromco wants to control from the top but Huber keeps moving.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Blake Hromco dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Hromco feints and as Huber raises his hands in defense, Hromco changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hromco wants to control from the top but Huber keeps moving.
Huber tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Blake Hromco has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hromco gets to his feet. Huber looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hromco drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hromco tries to free his leg and advance position but Huber is retaining full guard.
Hromco throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Huber works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Huber wants to control but Hromco passes easily into half guard.

Hromco is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Huber pushes Hromco off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Huber throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hromco tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Huber is in Hromco's guard.

Hromco is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Huber presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Hromco manages to break the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hromco has closed the distance and engaged Huber in a clinch.

It looks like Andy Huber has been cut.
Huber tries to break free but Hromco pushes him back against the cage.

Hromco has picked Huber up - he's going for a ride! Hromco dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Hromco has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hromco moves into full mount! Huber won't be happy about that!
Huber slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hromco is trying to control the action in half guard but Huber is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Huber makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Huber.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Huber is on top in guard.

Huber has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Blake Hromco showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Huber is looking for a sweep. Hromco is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hromco decides to stand and escape the position.

Hromco manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Huber keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Hromco gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Huber kicks Hromco off and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Huber closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Huber lands in his opponent's guard.
Huber throws an elbow that misses. Hromco uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Huber's guard. Nice move by Hromco!

Huber manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hromco manages to get himself to full guard.

Hromco is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Huber is trying to get back to full guard.
Huber is trying to stand up here but Hromco is controlling him well.
Hromco tries to pass the half guard into mount. Huber knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hromco seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Huber does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hromco not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Huber is trying to control but Hromco manages to pass to mount!

Hromco is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Huber to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Huber shrugs it off.
Poor strikes thrown by Hromco there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Huber might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hromco unloads with some shots from mount but Huber bucks and avoids them well.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Blake Hromco.
Well Hromco has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
