Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Juan Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raymond John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raymond John has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Juan Hicks's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Juan Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Raymond John!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hicks drives through and clinches with John against the cage.
John avoiding damage as Hicks throws knees to the body.
John jumps guard but Hicks stands there with John around his waist. John gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hicks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

John on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Hicks struggles to land a body shot inside as John controls his hands.
John drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hicks pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hicks tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but John paws at him with a jab and circles away.
John throws a series of strikes that have Hicks backpedaling.


It looks like Juan Hicks has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

John clinches.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Hicks pulls guard effortlessly.

Hicks throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Hicks is looking for a triangle but John pushes his legs off easily.

Hicks throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! John escapes and throws Hicks's legs to the side, diving into side control!

John is looking to control Hicks's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can John avoid being mounted?

John is looking for a sweep. Hicks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hicks thows a huge punch but John dodges it nicely.
Hicks lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

John wants to get back to full guard.
John has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hicks is working away from the top position though.
Hicks takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hicks connects with a nice short shot to John's temple.
John wants to control but Hicks is keeping busy and won't allow it.
John works his way to full guard. Good work.

Hicks stands up from guard. Let's bang!
John dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hicks. That did some damage!
John misses with a takedown attempt - Hicks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Juan Hicks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raymond John.
John darts in looking for a takedown but Hicks gets double underhooks and turns John into the cage.

John gets a clinch.
Hicks tries to land knees in the clinch but John avoids the damage to the body.
John lands with a left to the head.

John escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice body punch from John.
John fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and John counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
John is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hicks gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hicks fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hicks can't find room to land a body shot as John controls the action.
Hicks jumps guard but John stands there with Hicks around his waist. Hicks gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hicks tries to pull guard but John holds him up against the cage and eventually Hicks drops back down to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Raymond John will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

John shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hicks sprawls well. Hicks wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. John gets slowly back to his feet.
Hicks wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
John should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

John changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Hicks tries to counter by clinching up but John breaks away and moves out of range.

Raymond John seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Hicks swings wildly with an uppercut but John uses good head movement to avoid it.
John tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hicks smiles and moves away.
John throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

John closes the distance and pushes Hicks back into the cage.
Oh Hicks is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
John's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

John gets control of Hicks's arms and successfully pulls guard. John will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Hicks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hicks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

John takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
John bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hicks's guard.

John decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Hicks decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in John's guard.

John has his foot on Hicks's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hicks works his way back into a safe position though.
John is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

John has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hicks can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hicks is working John over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Juan Hicks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hicks distracts John with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hicks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
