PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pat Tillman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Juan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pat Tillman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Sean Juan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Juan on the wrong end of a nice hook.
An inside leg kick lands from Tillman.
Nice shot lands for Tillman.
A nice leg kick lands there from Tillman.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tillman.
Juan with a lazy takedown attempt
and Tillman counters with a stiff right hand.
Juan doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Tillman with a nice cross.
Juan shoots in looking for a takedown. Tillman tries to sprawl out of it but Juan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tillman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jab, jab by Tillman - just one landing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tillman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Juan was well out of range. Poor timing from Tillman.
Juan is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Tillman with a body shot.
A slapping leg kick lands for Tillman.
Tillman scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Juan dives in and grabs Tillman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tillman pushes down on Juan's head and hops out.
Pat Tillman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Juan.
Tillman lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Tillman cracks Juan with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Tillman leaves Juan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tillman is looking to counter punch.

Tillman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Pat Tillman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tillman throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Juan shoots for a takedown but Tillman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A thudding body kick lands there by Tillman!
Tillman connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Juan's hands.
Tillman slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Tillman moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Juan on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Tillman. Tillman obviously looking to wear him down.
Nice sprawl there from Tillman as Juan shoots in.
Tillman attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Juan is defended easily by Tillman.
Tillman uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Juan has time to react.
Tillman throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tillman throws a front kick that sends Juan stumbling back into the cage.
Pat Tillman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Juan takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Juan's coach down at Tōshi was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Juan's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Juan avoids a kick to the body.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A swing and a miss from Tillman.
Tillman is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Juan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tillman as he jumps to the side.
Tillman stuffs the takedown attempt from Juan. Juan gets slowly back to his feet.
Tillman jabs Juan right on the nose. Juan blinks but takes it well.
Tillman is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Juan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Juan shoots for a double leg takedown but Tillman sprawls well. He's pushed Juan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Juan moves out of range of the body kick.

Juan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tillman's half guard.
Tillman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tillman.
Tillman wants to sweep here but Juan controlling him for the moment.

Tillman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tillman has his hands on Juan's head, controlling the position.
Tillman seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Tillman tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Tillman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Juan's guard.

Juan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Juan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Tillman has picked Juan up and slammed him! Juan can't keep hold of the triangle and Tillman manages to pass to side control!
Juan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Juan takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here as Tillman stalls from top position.
Juan is looking for a sweep.
Juan is letting Tillman control him for a moment.

Tillman goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Juan rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tillman's guard! Nice work there by Juan!
Juan stands and throws Tillman's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tillman struggling a bit here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pat Tillman dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Juan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tillman but Tillman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Tillman swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Juan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Juan is looking to advance position but Tillman won't allow it.
Tillman wants to control but Juan is keeping busy.
Tillman gets full guard.
Juan looking to pass the guard.
Juan passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tillman is trying to control but can't.
Juan frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Juan misses with a head shot.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Juan fails to advance to Tillman's back.
Juan landing strikes, looking to finish!
Tillman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Juan wants to finish this one by submission but Tillman is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Juan.
Juan avoids the attempt from Tillman to control.

Juan has hold of Tillman's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Tillman manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Juan lands a big elbow.

Tillman is squirming around, avoiding Juan's attempts to control the action.

Juan looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Tillman is trying desperately to improve position.
Tillman gets back to half guard.
Juan wants to free his trapped foot but Tillman is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters are battling for position here. Tillman manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Tillman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Juan can do to turn this around?
Tillman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Juan manages to get himself to full guard.

Tillman stays in close to Juan's body and controls the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Juan wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Juan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Tillman throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Juan stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Tillman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tillman wants it to stay on the feet.
Tillman swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Tillman cracks Juan with a good jab.
Tillman looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Juan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nice takedown defense from Tillman. No joy for Juan on that attempt.
Pat Tillman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Juan.

Juan misses with a takedown attempt - Tillman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Tillman lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Juan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tillman, as that shot connected.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Juan.
Tillman connects with a solid leg kick.

Juan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tillman tries to avoid it but Juan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tillman to the ground. Tillman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tillman lands a jab to the nose.
Juan ducks right into an uppercut from Tillman.
Juan doesn't succeed with the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Tillman dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tillman fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Juan on the side of the head.

Tillman stuffs the takedown attempt from Juan. Juan gets slowly back to his feet.
Juan stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tillman.
Tillman lands a high kick!
Pat Tillman is winning the standup battle so far.
Tillman scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Juan doesn't seem bothered though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Juan tries for a takedown but Tillman circles away easily
and Tillman counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Juan takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Tillman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Juan manages to avoid it.
Juan tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Juan on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Tillman lands a lovely overhand right.

Tillman drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tillman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Tillman postures up.
Tillman passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Tillman in side control lands a decent elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Juan gets back to half guard.
Juan tries to get to full guard but Tillman has control of the leg.
Tillman is taking a breather. Juan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Tillman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Juan is just riding it out for now. Tillman eventually gives up the hold.
Tillman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tillman is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Juan!

Tillman is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Juan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Pat Tillman showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Tillman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
