Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between JJ Lotz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, JJ Lotz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Lotz drops down looking for a counter takedown but Velasquez sprawls and moves away.

Cain Velasquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lotz leaves Velasquez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Lotz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Velasquez, pushing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Velasquez jumps guard and drags Lotz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Lotz wants to control from the top but Velasquez keeps moving.

Velasquez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Velasquez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lotz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Velasquez.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Velasquez working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Cain Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Velasquez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lotz's head.

Velasquez has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Lotz defend it? Velasquez steps over the head and cranks it - Lotz is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Velasquez!

Cain Velasquez decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
