PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Constrictor Boa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sigurd Vinci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sigurd Vinci told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Constrictor Boa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sigurd Vinci!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boa dives in and grabs Vinci's left leg, looking for a takedown. Vinci pushes down on Boa's head and hops out.
Boa sets himself, and Vinci steps forward looking for the clinch! Boa avoids it this time.

Boa scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Vinci wants to get back to his feet.

Boa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vinci is just riding it out for now. Boa eventually gives up the hold.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vinci can do anything to dispel that myth.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boa seems to be working for a kimura but Vinci defends the submission attempt.

Boa postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Vinci to stand up.

Vinci fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Vinci throws a punch but it's blocked by Boa.
Vinci lands a left hand that snaps the head of Boa backwards.
Vinci swings wildly with an uppercut but Boa uses good head movement to avoid it.
Vinci tries to work over Boa's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Boa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Vinci is looking to clinch but Boa is avoiding it.

Vinci tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Vinci lands a right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vinci gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Boa.

Boa breaks the clinch.

Boa blocks an uppercut.

Vinci pushes Boa back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Boa throws a hook but Vinci avoids it easily.
Boa shoots in looking for a takedown. Vinci tries to sprawl out of it but Boa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vinci manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Boa sets himself, and Vinci steps forward looking for the clinch! Boa avoids it this time.

Nice takedown defense from Vinci. No joy for Boa on that attempt.
Boa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Vinci avoids it really well and circles away.
Vinci defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Boa.
Vinci steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Boa.
Vinci throws a nice looking combination but Boa bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Boa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vinci's waist but Vinci gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Boa off to one side.

Vinci moves into range and clinches up with Boa.
Vinci lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Boa backwards.
Vinci struggles to land a body shot inside as Boa controls his hands.

Boa is working Vinci over against the cage.
Boa goes for a takedown attempt but Vinci pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Boa has picked Vinci up - he's going for a ride! Boa dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Vinci is in trouble now - Boa has advanced to mount!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Boa lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Vinci really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Boa unloads with some shots from mount but Vinci bucks and avoids them well.

Boa goes for an armbar but Vinci turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Vinci.

Vinci tries to free his leg and advance position but Boa is retaining full guard.

Boa is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Vinci has his hands clasped together but Boa extends and breaks Vinci's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Boa.
