PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lenn Colsoer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Carr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Lance Carr was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lenn Colsoer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lance Carr!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carr scores with a three punch combo!
Colsoer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Carr connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Carr with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Colsoer to score with a decent uppercut.
Colsoer tries to close the distance and clinch but Carr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carr looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Carr is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Colsoer is just riding it out for now. Carr eventually gives up the hold.
Carr wants to free his trapped foot but Colsoer is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Colsoer tries to roll over but Carr keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Colsoer flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Carr tries to pass the half guard into mount. Colsoer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Colsoer is looking for a sweep. Carr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Colsoer is defending against the submission attempts here by Carr.
Carr wants to pass the guard but Colsoer is defending well.
Colsoer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Colsoer tries to get out of the position.

Colsoer is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Colsoer looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Carr is trying to control. Colsoer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Colsoer actively working from the bottom here.

Carr pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Colsoer is keeping the position for now.

Carr postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Colsoer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Carr, into his guard.

Colsoer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Colsoer throws a strike but Carr rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Carr controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Colsoer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carr is aware though and is defending well.
Carr controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Carr wants to pass the guard but Colsoer is keeping the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Colsoer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Carr sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Carr trying to control but Colsoer is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lance Carr dominated that round.
That's time! Colsoer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Colsoer throws a leg kick that misses.

Carr keeps the fight on the outside.
Carr is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Carr changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Colsoer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Colsoer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Carr decides to stand up, so the ref orders Colsoer to his feet.

Colsoer missing with a left hand there. Carr was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

and Carr counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Carr has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Colsoer connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Carr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Colsoer, pushing him back against the cage.
Carr is trying to force a seperation but Colsoer has the dominant position.
Carr looking for a takedown.
Carr is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Colsoer to keep the fight standing.
Carr wants a takedown.
Lenn Colsoer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lance Carr.
Carr is trying to drag Colsoer to the mat but Colsoer just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Colsoer has Carr pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Colsoer pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Carr tumbling to the mat - Colsoer dives into Carr's guard.

Carr looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Colsoer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Colsoer throws a big elbow that misses.
Carr is trying to control the position but Colsoer postures up.
Carr keeping moving, preventing Colsoer from controlling successfully.
Colsoer throws a big right hand that misses.
Colsoer content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Carr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Lance Carr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Colsoer wants to sweep here but Carr controlling him for the moment.
Carr is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.

Carr gets to his feet. Colsoer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Colsoer is looking to clinch.
Colsoer blocks a jab.
Colsoer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Carr throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Colsoer on the side of the head.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Carr is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Colsoer keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Carr's efforts to push away.

Colsoer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Colsoer throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Colsoer misses with a body shot.
Carr appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Carr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Colsoer.
Carr slips under a jab.
A nice side step and Carr releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Colsoer loads up on a big right hand but Carr slips the punch.
As Colsoer backs off Carr throws a huge counter combo but Colsoer manages to avoid it all.
Colsoer misses with a two punch combination.
Carr cracks a nice hook into Colsoer's ribs.
Colsoer walks into a left hand.
Colsoer on the wrong end of a nice jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carr connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Carr tries to close the distance and clinch up but Colsoer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Colsoer shoots in and drives through. Carr sprawls well.
Carr has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Carr has Colsoer pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Colsoer manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Carr throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Carr moves in looking to clinch but Colsoer pushes him off.
Carr misses with a looping left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Lance Carr will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Carr is trying to push Colsoer away but Colsoer has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Carr has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Colsoer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Colsoer wants to stand and escape but Carr is having none of it.
Colsoer is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Colsoer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carr's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carr is on top in guard.

Lance Carr is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Carr decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Colsoer, up you get!

Carr throws a jab when Colsoer was well out of range.
Colsoer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Carr counters with a single leg into guard. Colsoer didn't expect that.
Carr wants to control from the top but Colsoer keeps moving.
Colsoer wants to sweep here but Carr controlling him for the moment.
Carr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Colsoer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carr not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Carr tries to free his leg and advance position but Colsoer is retaining full guard.
Colsoer will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lenn Colsoer.
I think Carr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
