PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Adam James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Jones!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Sam Margolis and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!

James ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. James no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

As Jones looks to move away, James throws a big counter combo but Jones just gets out of the way.
Jones has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as James is landing a low percentage of strikes.

James darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.
Jones goes for a takedown in the clinch but James prevents it.

James manages to pull guard.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James kicks Jones off and gets to his feet.
James fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
James avoids the body shot from Jones.
James moves out of range of the body kick.
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.

James tries to sprawl but Jones drives through with a takedown into half guard.

James kicks off Jones and gets to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.
Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
James shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jones wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
James shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. James gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Jones feints a jab promting James to slip. Jones then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. James slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

James closes the distance and pushes Jones back into the cage.
James is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.
James prevents the takedown attempt.
James drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jones gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Jones scores with a crisp jab that stopped James in his tracks.
Jones throws a hook but James avoids it easily.
Johnny Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from James. James gets slowly back to his feet.
James uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.

Jones swings for the body but James moves out of range.
James throws a big counter combination but Jones scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Jones misses with a straight right.
Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
James is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
James fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jones looks to score with a jab to the body but James is just out of range.

and James holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Jones has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. James avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jones is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! James is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! James has escaped and now he's on top!

Jones wants to improve his position but instead James has moved into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

James stands up from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Adam James will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
James shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jones lands with a hook. James tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Jones throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
James shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.
Horrible takedown attempt by James or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones, which made it look bad.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but James has taken the fight into the clinch.

James wants to take the fight to the mat but Jones manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Jones is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

James slips under a jab from Jones.
James seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Jones throws out a loose jab but James uses good head movement to avoid it.
James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by James.
Jones blocks the body kick.
Johnny Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Adam James is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but James was well out of range. Poor timing from Jones.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think James has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
