PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frol Kolun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Chad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Chad's choice of entrance music: Bleeding Through - Death Anxiety. Ted Chad told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frol Kolun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ted Chad!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kolun changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chad tries to avoid it but Kolun manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chad to the ground. Chad escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Chad takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Ted Chad has been cut.
Kolun throws a leg kick that misses.
Kolun tries for a takedown but Chad sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chad scores with a shot to the body.
Chad shoots for a takedown but Kolun saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Oooh a lovely combination from Kolun sends Chad down but not out. Kolun dives into side control looking to finish.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Chad gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Chad is trying to get back to full guard.
Chad is trying to stand up here but Kolun is controlling him well.
Kolun knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chad on the ground.

Kolun tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Chad is squirming around, avoiding Kolun's attempts to control the action.

Chad is in a horrible position here. Kolun smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Kolun looking to control but Chad is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Chad tries to hold on but Kolun pushes him away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chad is looking to improve his position but Kolun isn't that keen on the idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Kolun is looking to break free of the clinch but Chad has double underhooks.

Kolun tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Chad breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kolun tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chad swivels and escapes.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chad cracks Kolun with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Kolun from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Kolun is covering up but some of the strikes from Chad are getting through and doing damage.

Chad struggling to keep hold of the position.
Chad punches the canvas rather than the man.
Chad is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Chad is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Chad gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Chad gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Chad apologises and we restart here on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kolun closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Chad throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chad.
Kolun darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Kolun swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Chad fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Chad closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kolun tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Chad manages to move to mount!
Chad can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kolun is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Chad showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Chad stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kolun to get to his feet.
Kolun tries to clinch up but Chad circles away and keeps his distance.

Kolun throws a big right hand that misses.
Kolun is looking to stand up but Chad won't let him.
Kolun pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chad is keeping the position for now.
Chad has a closed guard, preventing Kolun from standing up.

Chad is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Chad scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Chad doesn't manage to clinch there - Kolun circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kolun throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Chad.
Kolun looks to throw the jab but Chad is out of range.
Kolun pushes Chad away with a front kick.
Kolun is looking to clinch but Chad is avoiding it.

Chad feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kolun throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Kolun is working an open guard so Chad takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Chad gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kolun wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Chad is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kolun gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Frol Kolun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ted Chad.

Chad jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kolun walks away with a smile on his face. Chad gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Kolun connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A big right from Kolun misses.
Kolun rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Chad moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Chad looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Chad prevents Kolun from standing back up.
Kolun throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Chad stands up and beckons Kolun to join him on the feet.
Kolun shoots and misses

and Chad holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ted Chad comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Chad has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
