PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Burgess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antony Rein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Antony Rein has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johnny Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Antony Rein!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burgess has his takedown stuffed

and Rein holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Burgess keeps control of Rein as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rein has Burgess pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Burgess manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Burgess.
Rein fails to pull guard.
Rein wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rein keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Burgess's efforts to push away.
Burgess tries to land a knee to the head but Rein blocks with his arms.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Burgess.

Burgess pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Antony Rein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Burgess darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Burgess will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rein regains full guard. Nicely done.

Rein is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Burgess is aware though and is defending well.
Rein wants to stand up but Burgess is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rein holds on and takes a little breather.
Rein trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rein working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burgess doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burgess manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rein controlling Burgess's posture.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rein moves into the clinch.
Rein is trying to pull guard but Burgess has him pressed against the cage.
Johnny Burgess has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antony Rein.
Burgess prevents the takedown attempt.

Rein has Burgess pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rein pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Burgess tumbling to the mat - Rein dives into Burgess's guard.

Burgess looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burgess tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rein is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Burgess working for a triangle but Rein defends it easily.
Rein advances position into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rein controls the position.
Rein works to advance to full mount. Burgess defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Rein lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Rein with the ground and pound from mount.


Burgess is rocked!
Burgess wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Oh Burgess is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rein has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Burgess's body.
Burgess wants to escape the position.
Rein really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Burgess.

Burgess defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Rein's arms.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antony Rein dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rein keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Burgess seems to have got his legs back now.

Rein looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Burgess is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Rein dives into side control.

Rein cracks Burgess with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Rein immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Burgess is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Rein!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Antony Rein!
