Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimi Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenta Yuudai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powell kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 8 Mile. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenta Yuudai!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Powell misses.
Yuudai closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.


It looks like Kenta Yuudai has been cut.
Yuudai takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Yuudai keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've been informed that Yuudai has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

As Yuudai tries to get set, Powell tries to push him back and clinch up but Yuudai manages to avoid the attempt.
Yuudai throws out a powerful jab.
Yuudai looks to land a combination but Powell avoids it well.

Powell is breathing heavily.

Powell gets caught napping as Yuudai dives in and scores a takedown. Powell manages to retain guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Yuudai stands up and waves to Powell to follow him.
Yuudai misses with a body kick.
Yuudai connects with a leg kick. Powell looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Yuudai swats away the attempt to clinch by Powell.
Yuudai swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Powell wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Yuudai throws a head kick that misses.
Powell dodges the punch combination from Yuudai.
Powell on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kenta Yuudai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Powell wants to clinch up but Yuudai keeps it at a distance.
Yuudai fails to land the takedown.
Yuudai throws a hook but Powell blocks it.
Powell is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Yuudai.
Nice uppercut lands for Powell. That snapped Yuudai's head back.

Powell moves into the clinch successfully.
Yuudai is trying to break free.
Powell misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Yuudai blocks a body shot from Powell.

Yuudai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yuudai throws a shot from downtown. Powell moves away and avoids it.
Yuudai throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Yuudai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Powell clinches.
Yuudai wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Powell lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Yuudai.
Powell prevents Yuudai from breaking the clinch.

Yuudai pulls Powell into guard.
Yuudai is looking to sweep but instead, Powell has passed into half guard.
Powell keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Yuudai is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Powell is taking a breather. Yuudai says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Yuudai throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Yuudai is trying to control but can't.
Yuudai tries to get to full guard but Powell has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yuudai wants to get back to his feet.
Yuudai tries to roll over but Powell keeps him under control.
Powell is thwarting Yuudai's attempts to control the position.
Yuudai flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Powell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
I was talking to Powell's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Powell creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Yuudai swings wildly with an uppercut but Powell uses good head movement to avoid it.
Powell lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Yuudai backwards.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Powell.
Powell lands a hook that snaps the head of Yuudai backwards.
A frustrated look appears on Yuudai's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Yuudai tries to break free but Powell pushes him back against the cage.
Powell throws a head punch that misses.
Yuudai tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Yuudai breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yuudai doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Powell counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Jimi Powell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenta Yuudai.
Yuudai wants to stand and escape but Powell is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jimi Powell will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Kenta Yuudai's cut.

Powell cracks Yuudai with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Powell gets a clinch.
Powell misses with a punch on the inside.
Powell has Yuudai pressed against the cage, preventing Yuudai from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Yuudai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Powell moves into the clinch.
Powell is trying to pull guard but Yuudai has him pressed against the cage.
Powell lands a right hand.
Powell misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Powell lands a left hand.

Yuudai breaks the clinch.
Powell staying out of range there.
Powell uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yuudai.
Yuudai misses with a straight right.
As Yuudai tries to get set, Powell tries to push him back and clinch up but Yuudai manages to avoid the attempt.
Yuudai dips to his left and cracks Powell with an uppercut!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Yuudai has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Powell swings wildly with an uppercut but Yuudai uses good head movement to avoid it.

Yuudai is trying to break free.
Yuudai wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Yuudai breaks the clinch.
Yuudai scores with a jab.
Yuudai takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Yuudai looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Yuudai tries to keep at a distance but Powell has taken the fight into the clinch.
Yuudai wants to break the clinch but can't.

Yuudai successfully pulls guard.
Powell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Powell continues to stall.
More hug and hope from Powell.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yuudai is on top in guard.

Yuudai throws an elbow that misses. Powell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Yuudai's guard. Nice move by Powell!

Yuudai has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Powell has passed into side control.
Powell is staying tight to Yuudai's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Yuudai tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Powell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Powell decides to stand back up. Powell steps back and let's Yuudai get back to his feet.
Powell lands a jab to Yuudai's midsection.
Yuudai takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Yuudai is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yuudai looks to land a combination but Powell avoids it well.
Decent striking displayed by Yuudai there.

Yuudai tries to keep at a distance but Powell has taken the fight into the clinch.
Powell presses Yuudai against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Powell lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Powell prevents Yuudai from breaking the clinch.
Powell lands a shoulder strike.
Powell scores with an uppercut up the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A nice left hand lands by Powell.
Powell works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Powell lands a left hand that snaps the head of Yuudai backwards.
Powell lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Powell pushes Yuudai against the cage and as Yuudai bounces back, Powell cracks him with a massive overhand right that sends him crashing to the mat! Powell follows up with more strikes but Yuudai was out from that first, devastating punch! Wow!
