PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edwin Kjaer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Woima Karhu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kjaer comes to the cage accompanied by Rammstein - Führe Mich (Nymphomaniac Version). Karhu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. House of Pain - Jump Around kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Edwin Kjaer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Woima Karhu!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karhu finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Kjaer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Karhu fails with a takedown attempt.
Karhu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kjaer manages to avoid it.
Kjaer misses with a looping right.
Karhu lands with an uppercut that bounces Kjaer off the cage and back into range.
Kjaer misses with a straight right.
A countering left hand to the body from Karhu misses.

Karhu closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kjaer to the mat! Kjaer manages to get full guard.
Kjaer is pulling down on Karhu's head. It's preventing any offense from Karhu, at least for the moment.
Karhu tries to free his leg and advance position but Kjaer is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Karhu passes Kjaer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Karhu is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kjaer defends it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Karhu is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Kjaer to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Kjaer looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Kjaer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Karhu controls the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Karhu trying to control the position from guard on top but Kjaer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Karhu.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karhu is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Karhu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kjaer has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Karhu but great work by Kjaer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Karhu looks to move to half guard but instead Kjaer has passed into mount! Damn!
Karhu wants to hold on but Kjaer pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karhu manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Kjaer is thwarting Karhu's attempts to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Karhu is controlling Kjaer's position as best he can from this difficult position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Woima Karhu dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Karhu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kjaer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Karhu somewhat.
Kjaer moves into range and connects with a jab.
Good leg kick by Karhu there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kjaer missing with a left hand there. Karhu was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kjaer lands a jab to the nose.
Kjaer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Karhu.
Kjaer misses with a head kick.
Karhu misses with an uppercut. Kjaer saw that one coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Karhu gets the takedown into side control.

Karhu is working to tighten his grip on Kjaer's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Kjaer has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Karhu is really squeezing tight and eventually Kjaer passes out! Karhu breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Woima Karhu!
Woima Karhu seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
