PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kieran Summers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timothy Poggle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Timothy Poggle told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kieran Summers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Timothy Poggle!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Watson and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Summers cracks Poggle with a good jab.
Poggle throws a hook but Summers avoids it easily.
Poggle has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nice shot lands for Summers.
Summers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Poggle as he avoids it easily.
Poggle feints a counter leg kick.
Poggle feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Summerss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Summers.
Poggle throws out a loose jab but Summers uses good head movement to avoid it.
Summers tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Poggle manages to circle out of the way.

Summers dives in and scores a takedown into Poggle's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Poggle is on top in guard.

Poggle trying to control the position from guard on top but Summers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Poggle is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Poggle postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Poggle stands up over Summers, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Summers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Poggle manages to get himself to full guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Summers's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Summers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Poggle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Poggle lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Summers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Summers looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Summers is working hard here to advance position.

Summers looking for a guillotine here but Poggle defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Summers tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Poggle with a nice head shot there.

Summers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Summers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Poggle is one step ahead there.

Summers wants to sweep here but Poggle controlling him for the moment.

Summers has his foot on Poggle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Poggle works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Timothy Poggle dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A slapping body kick lands there for Poggle.
Poggle dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Summers throws a nice inside leg kick.
Summers on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Poggle lands a body shot.
Summers takes a swing at Poggle's ribcage but misses.
Timothy Poggle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Summers will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Summers connects with an inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Poggle bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Summers's head backwards.
Summers misses with a low kick.
Poggle looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Poggle lands a left and a right that sends Summers crashing to the canvas! Poggle dives into mount looking to finish!


Summers is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee warns Summers that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oh Summers is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Poggle! Summers is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Timothy Poggle!
