Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Juan Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raymond Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Rios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Raymond Kim!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rios tries to sprawl but Kim drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kim wants to get back to his feet.
Rios trying to control but Kim postures up.
Kim is keen to just control but Rios is a slippery customer.
Rios tries to get to full guard but Kim has control of the leg.
Kim performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rios is not content to let Kim control the position.
Kim tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rios controls his leg.

Kim looking for a submission but Rios manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Rios has a closed guard, preventing Kim from standing up.

Kim throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rios works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rios is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

It looks like Kim is going to stand back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rios has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kim is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Raymond Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kim throws a lazy body kick

and Rios counters with a single leg into guard. Kim didn't expect that.

Kim is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rios will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kim can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rios controls the pace.
Rios sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kim's guard.

Rios is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kim doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rios.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kim manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Rios keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Kim pulls guard successfully.

Kim escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rios gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rios stands up over Kim, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Raymond Kim will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A looping hook to the body misses from Kim. Rios does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kim tries to bum rush Rios with a series of wild strikes but Rios uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kim misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Kim gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Kim wants the takedown. Rios is fighting it off but Kim persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rios's guard against the cage.

Rios pushes Kim off and scrambles back to his feet.
Rios avoids a kick to the body.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rios tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rios is on top in guard.


Kim kicks Rios off and gets to his feet.

Kim shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kim was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kim is breathing heavily.
Rios tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kim wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rios really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
You can see the frustration on Rios's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rios manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kim controlling the position well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rios not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Rios is taking a breather. Kim says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Rios has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kim is looking to control Rios's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kim avoid being mounted?

Kim is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rios pulls his head out easily.
Kim is looking to improve his position.
Raymond Kim has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rios takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kim is pressing down on Rios's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Rios is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rios working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Rios postures up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rios throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kim tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Rios is looking to reverse the position.

The strikes coming from Kim are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Rios manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Rios is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Kim is trying to stand.
Kim has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rios is working away from the top position though.

That was a close second round but I would say that Juan Rios will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Kim closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rios did well to prevent Kim getting side control.
It looks like Kim is going to stand back up.
Kim thows a huge punch but Rios dodges it nicely.

Kim decides to stand and escape the position.
Kim misses with a head kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kim.
Rios has one of Kim's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Kim wants to control but Rios is keeping him busy.
Rios tries to buck Kim off but Kim is having none of it.
Kim takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kim throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Rios manages to get back to half guard.
Rios is trying to stand.
Rios tries to roll over but Kim keeps him under control.
Kim is keen to just control but Rios is a slippery customer.
Rios pushes Kim off looking to stand but Kim dives back in and keeps control.
Kim wants to stand but Rios has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rios is not content to let Kim control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rios is trying to get back to half guard.

Rios is looking to regain half guard here but Kim keeps moving and retains side control.

Kim is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rios is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Rios is looking for a sweep.
Rios is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kim's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Rios makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rios.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Raymond Kim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kim has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Raymond Kim was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
