PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between JD Hogg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buddy Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buddy Guy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hogg closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hogg controls the position from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hogg tries to move to mount but Guy blocks the move with his legs.

Guy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hogg remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hogg shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hogg was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Guy wants to control but Hogg postures up.

Hogg is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Guy will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Hogg seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Guy for as long as he can get away with.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hogg is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hogg shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Hogg's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hogg in particular looking to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hogg shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Guy is trying to defend but Hogg finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
