Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joao Pedro Mauricio DeSilva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alen Zalac!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zalac throws an ugly left hook that misses

and DeSilva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by DeSilva.
DeSilva tries to free his leg and advance position but Zalac is retaining full guard.

DeSilva drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and DeSilva jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Zalac can't keep his opponent in guard - DeSilva advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
DeSilva is figuring out what he wants to do next.
DeSilva tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zalac knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeSilva is looking to advance position but Zalac won't allow it.
DeSilva keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's one minute gone in the round.

DeSilva is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Zalac has managed to free his arm - good work.

DeSilva is looking for a kimura but Zalac is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for DeSilva to get the leverage.

DeSilva wants to pass the guard but Zalac is defending well.
DeSilva is working hard here to advance position.

DeSilva perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Zalac told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

DeSilva is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Zalac is trying to stand up here but DeSilva is controlling him well.

DeSilva is working for a submission of some sort.
DeSilva is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

DeSilva swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
