PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Paredao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Angle comes into the arena with Kurt Angle blaring out of the sound system. Paredao has chosen If you want blood - ACDC as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Angle!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexander Paredao!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paredao misses with a few strikes there.
Paredao fails with the takedown.
Angle fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Paredao throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Angle fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Paredao sprawls well initially but Angle persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Angle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Paredao does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Angle looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Paredao can do anything to dispel that myth.

Angle is working hard here to advance position.

Angle is looking for a kimura here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Paredao lands with a straight right. Angle didn't see that one coming.

Angle shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Paredao but Paredao pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Angle has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurt Angle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paredao throws a series of punches but Angle moves out of range.

Angle bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Angle trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Angle jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Paredao manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Angle tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Paredao really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Angle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Paredao is not content to let Angle control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Angle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Paredao keeps working.

Angle goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Paredao rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Angle's guard! Nice work there by Paredao!
Angle tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A telegraphed right hand from Paredao misses the target.
Paredao scores with a nice head shot.

Angle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alexander Paredao will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Angle shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Paredao as he avoids it easily.

Angle scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Angle wants to free his trapped foot but Paredao is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Angle working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Paredao's thigh. Paredao counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Paredao wriggles free and stands up.

Angle closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Angle lands in his opponent's guard.

Paredao wants to get back to his feet but Angle is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Angle is stalling in the full guard.
Paredao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Angle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Angle stays in close to Paredao's body and controls the position.
Angle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paredao swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Paredao wants to stand but Angle is controlling the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Paredao works Angle's body with a nice hook.

Angle feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Paredao is breathing heavily.
Angle wants to control from the top but Paredao keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paredao is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Angle is controlling him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Angle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Paredao's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Angle is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Paredao doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Angle.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Paredao fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The ground and pound from Angle seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Angle tries to advance to mount but Paredao denies him.
Angle has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Paredao!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Paredao is squirming around, avoiding Angle's attempts to control the action.

Angle looking to isolate an arm here. Paredao doesn't see it coming and as Angle extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Angle!
