PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pius Ho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas has chosen Let the body's hit the floor as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pius Ho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Michael Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas gets off balance looking for a body kick

so Ho counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Thomas has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ho has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Ho jumps guard and drags Thomas to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Thomas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Thomas wanted to stand there but Ho had control of the position.
Ho will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ho tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Thomas trying to control the position from guard on top but Ho is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Thomas is looking to stand up but Ho won't let him.
Ho has control of Thomas's left arm, preventing Thomas from doing any damage.

Ho is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thomas is aware though and is defending well.
Thomas not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ho is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Thomas is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ho seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Thomas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ho circles away quickly and effectively.
Ho tries to counter with a takedown but Thomas is quick to defend against it.
Thomas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thomas wants it to stay on the feet.

Ho appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Ho fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Thomas avoids it really well and circles away.

Thomas tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Ho landing small, sideways elbows.
Thomas wants to pass to mount but Ho is defending the position.

Ho is not content to let Thomas control the position.
Thomas wants to stand up but Ho is controlling the position.
Ho desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Ho is trying to get back to full guard.
Thomas wants to stand up but Ho has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Thomas gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Thomas forces Ho back against the cage and clinches.

Ho manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Ho lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Thomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ho. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ho with a flurry of punches that miss.
Thomas wants to sweep here but Ho controlling him for the moment.
Ho prevents Thomas from getting back to his feet.

Ho missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
We've been informed that Thomas has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Ho stops Thomas from standing up.

Thomas wants to stand up but Ho is controlling him.
Ho controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ho in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ho stops Thomas from standing up.
Thomas has momentary wrist control but Ho slips an elbow through the middle.
Ho is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Michael Thomas will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Thomas misses with a two punch combination.
Ho changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Thomas swats away the attempt to clinch by Ho.

Thomas scores with a crisp jab that stopped Ho in his tracks.
Thomas moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Thomas has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Ho is on him like a limpet, forcing Thomas back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ho drags the fight down to the ground.
Ho is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Thomas wants to improve his position but Ho is controlling well.

Thomas pushes Ho off and gets back to his feet.

Thomas darts in and clinches Ho up against the cage.

Thomas misses with a hook from the clinch.
Thomas tries a body shot but Ho blocks it.
Ho goes for a takedown in the clinch but Thomas prevents it.

Ho pulls Thomas into guard.

Thomas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Pius Ho overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ho looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Thomas is looking to stand up but Ho won't let him.

Thomas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ho, up you get!

Thomas moves into the clinch successfully.
Ho keeps control of Thomas as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Thomas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ho ducks right into an uppercut from Thomas.
Thomas misses with an attempted mid kick.
Thomas misses with a wild combination.
Ho changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Thomas moves into range and connects with a jab.
Ho shoots in looking for a takedown. Thomas tries to sprawl out of it but Ho keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thomas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pius Ho. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ho shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Thomas but Thomas pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Thomas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ho circles away quickly and effectively.
Thomas jabs Ho right on the nose. Ho blinks but takes it well.

Thomas is trying to stand up here but Ho is controlling him well.
Thomas is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Ho working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Michael Thomas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Ho shoots for a double leg takedown but Thomas sprawls well. He's pushed Ho's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ho is trying to drag Thomas to the mat but Thomas just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Ho has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Thomas clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Thomas is trying to get back to his feet but Ho has full control of the position and if anything, Thomas has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Ho is hanging on to Thomas's back as he tries to escape.

Ho is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Ho is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Thomas defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
