PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brij Khali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Brij Khali!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Carter trying to control the action but Khali is working from the bottom.
Carter moves into full mount! Khali won't be happy about that!
Khali tries to hold on but Carter postures up.
Carter tries to control but Khali wriggling away.
Carter with shots to the head and body - Khali looks very uncomfortable down there.
Khali wants to control but Carter is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Carter wants to control the action but instead Khali gets a body lock and reverses into Carter's guard! Nice work!
Carter throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Khali trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khali wants to get up but he can't break Carter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Carter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Carter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Khali is one step ahead there.
Carter keeping moving, preventing Khali from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Carter shoots in and bounces Khali off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Carter pushes down on Khali's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Carter passes to full mount!
Khali really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Carter looking to control but Khali is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Carter lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Khali tries to hold on but Carter postures up.
Carter landing strikes, looking to finish!

Carter prevents Khali from getting the reversal.

Carter has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Khali's face.
Carter throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Carter lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Khali hang on?
Carter wants to control the pace but Khali is squirming around nicely.
Carter thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Khali avoids a series of strikes thrown by Carter.
Khali is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Khali looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Carter - that will leave a mark!
Carter bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Carter works the jab nicely.
Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khali circles away.
Carter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khali pinned against the cage. Khali gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Carter has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Khali throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Khali looks to land a right hand but Carter moved out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Khali.
Khali slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
No luck for Carter with that takedown attempt.
Carter blocks a jab.
Khali takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Brij Khali seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khali looks to land a right hand but Carter moved out of range.

Carter closes the distance and pushes Khali back into the ropes.
Khali wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Carter goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Khali tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Khali gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carter.

Carter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Khali lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Carter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carter lands in his opponent's guard.
Khali looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carter is one step ahead there.

Carter drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Khali manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Carter has Khali in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Carter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Khali wants to stand but Carter is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter trying to strike off his back.
Khali must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carter wants to control the position but Khali says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Carter is trying to maintain the position but Khali is very close to passing his half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carter moves out of range as Khali strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Carter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Carter trying to control from half guard but Khali is working away.
Carter trying to mount his opponent but Khali defends it.
Khali keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter wants to advance to full mount but Khali doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Carter dominated that second round.
That's time! Carter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Khali throws a hook to the side of Carter's head but Carter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khali circles away.
Khali lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Khali misses with a wild combination.
Brij Khali is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carter shoots in looking for a takedown. Khali tries to sprawl out of it but Carter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Khali manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Carter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Khali throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Carter counters with a nice double leg into side control. Khali won't be happy with that.
Carter throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Khali works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Carter thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carter not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Carter lands with a punch from half guard.
Khali is trying to maintain the position but Carter is very close to passing his half guard.
Khali is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carter throws a strike but Khali avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Brij Khali has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Khali as he avoids it easily.
Khali thows a left - swing and a miss!
Brij Khali is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Khali looks to score with a jab to the body but Carter is just out of range.
Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khali circles away.
Khali misses with a few strikes there.
Carter slips a jab and a cross from Khali.
Khali stuffs the takedown attempt from Carter. Carter gets slowly back to his feet.
Carter scores with a kick to the midsection.

Carter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Khali manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Carter trying to pass the guard but Khali defending well.
Khali is staying active underneath Carter, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Khali misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Carter working over Khali with some ground and pound. Khali looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Khali gets back to full guard.
Carter thows a big elbow that misses.
Carter wants to stand but Khali has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Carter closes the distance and clinches up with Khali, looking for a takedown. Carter pushes Khali against the ropes but Khali circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Carter wants to pass the guard but Khali is keeping the position.
Carter is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
Carlos Carter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Carter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
