Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Malingo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maurice Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Smith's choice of entrance music: Bow Down (to no man). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie Malingo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maurice Smith!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malingo avoids the head kick by Smith.
As Smith looks to move away, Malingo throws a big counter combo but Smith just gets out of the way.
Smith misses with the body kick

and Malingo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
Malingo is in close to Smith's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Malingo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Malingo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Malingo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Malingo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Malingo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Malingo drops an elbow to the side of Smith's head.

Malingo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Malingo lands a nice short elbow.

Malingo is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Smith is hurt! He's hurt bad - Malingo fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Smith from any more punishment! Congratulations to Malingo! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eddie Malingo!
Eddie Malingo decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
The defeated Maurice Smith had this to say: 'I took a risk taking this fight. But to be the best you have to beat the best and in the words of the great Arnold Schwarzenegger: "I PEE BLACK"'.
