PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamaal Griffith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BA Baracus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Baracus misses

and Griffith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Griffith.

Griffith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Griffith could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Griffith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Griffith dives in and scores a takedown into Baracus's guard.

Griffith avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Griffith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Griffith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Griffith controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Baracus is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Griffith is controlling him.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Baracus keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Baracus wants to counter the offense by Griffith and move into the clinch position.

Baracus feints and as Griffith raises his hands in defense, Baracus changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Griffith thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Baracus wants to get up but he can't break Griffith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Griffith has his foot on Baracus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Baracus works his way back into a safe position though.
Baracus must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baracus throws a head kick that misses.
Baracus lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

It looks like Jamaal Griffith has been cut.
Griffith shoots in and drives through. Baracus sprawls well.

Baracus instigates a clinch.
Griffith swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Baracus pulls guard effortlessly.
Baracus is trying to keep Griffith in close.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Griffith drops back looking for a leg! Baracus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Baracus manages to kick Griffith off! Griffith jumps back into Baracus's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Griffith tries to clinch there but Baracus circles away.
Baracus throws a sloppy head kick and Griffith moves out of range easily.
Griffith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Baracus swivels and escapes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Griffith enables Baracus to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Griffith manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Griffith manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Griffith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Griffith shoots in for a takedown but Baracus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Baracus counters with a crisp right hand that drops Griffith! Baracus lets Griffith back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamaal Griffith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
