The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbosa throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Barbosa enables ALmeida to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Barbosa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
ALmeida postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Barbosa throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Barbosa has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but ALmeida has passed into side control.

A lull in the action here as ALmeida stalls from top position.

ALmeida thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Barbosa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The referee asks ALmeida politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. ALmeida prefers to stall for the moment though.

ALmeida takes a little break here. Barbosa wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Barbosa is looking to regain half guard here but ALmeida keeps moving and retains side control.

Barbosa tries to get the hooks in deep but ALmeida pushed the leg off.

Barbosa looking to break ALmeida's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. ALmeida remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Barbosa will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

ALmeida stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barbosa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

ALmeida content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Barbosa has locked up a guillotine! Barbosa's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? ALmeida is holding on here and Barbosa must be using up a lot of energy. ALmeida has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Barbosa gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
