PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Voilier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Voilier kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I came to play. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Voilier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Shepherd!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepherd jabs Voilier to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Shepherd missing with a left hand there. Voilier was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Shepherd misses with a hook.

Shepherd bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Shepherd.
An elbow from Shepherd crashes against the mat.
Shepherd in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Voilier tries to buck Shepherd off but Shepherd is having none of it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee asks Voilier politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Voilier prefers to stall for the moment though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Voilier wants to get back to his feet but Shepherd is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Shepherd postures up in Voilier's guard and throws a big left but Voilier blocks it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shepherd accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shepherd lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Shepherd throwing strikes but missing.
Voilier is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shepherd throws a big right hand that misses.
Shepherd throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Voilier works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Voilier utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Voilier dives in for a single leg takedown but Shepherd sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Voilier throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Shepherd. Voilier does a little dance to reset his feet.
Voilier is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Shepherd.
Jack Shepherd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Voilier falls off balance throwing a combination
and Shepherd counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Voilier has been working on his balance at Street Fighter MMA (Cheepest gym $200 per Week), so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Shepherd.
Shepherd lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Shepherd misses with a body shot.
Voilier fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Voilier takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Shepherd darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

A decent looking cross lands there for Shepherd.

Shepherd shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Voilier's guard.

Voilier wriggles free and stands up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A low kick from Voilier is predictable there
and Shepherd counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Voilier avoids the body shot from Shepherd.
Voilier defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shepherd.
Voilier scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Voilier tries for a takedown but Shepherd sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Shepherd closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Voilier explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Voilier's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Shepherd goes for a double leg but Voilier avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Voilier continues to drive forward.

Shepherd is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Voilier gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Voilier goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Shepherd tries for a takedown but Voilier manages to get underhooks.
Simon Voilier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Shepherd.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Voilier stands up and waves to Shepherd to follow him.
Shepherd dodges the punch combination from Voilier.
Shepherd misses the shot to the body.
Simon Voilier is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No luck for Voilier with that takedown attempt.
Shepherd fails with the takedown.
Voilier throws a big counter combination but Shepherd scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Shepherd gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Voilier controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Voilier's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Voilier is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Shepherd!

Shepherd is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Voilier wants to finish this one by submission but Shepherd is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Voilier.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Voilier tries to control but Shepherd wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Voilier is pushing down on Shepherd's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shepherd is fighting to maintain full guard but Voilier has managed to sneak the leg through.

Shepherd holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Voilier tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Voilier fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shepherd can do anything to dispel that myth.
Voilier seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shepherd for as long as he can get away with.

Voilier is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Shepherd is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Shepherd flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Voilier anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Shepherd and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Voilier slips an arm under Shepherd chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Voilier has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Voilier is squeezing on Shepherd like an anaconda would it's prey. Shepherd fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Simon Voilier!
Simon Voilier was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
