Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Simon!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simon keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rua.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Simon throws a punch but it's blocked by Rua.
A head punch on the inside from Simon fails to land.
A nice right hand lands inside from Rua.
Rua missing with knees to the body.
Rua blocks a body shot from Simon.
Rua keeps control of Simon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rua lands a hook to the side of the head.
Simon wants to get back to striking at distance but Rua won't allow it.
Rua tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Nice body punch from Rua - that landed with a thud.
A short right from Rua on the inside.
It looks like Paul Simon has been cut.
Simon is trying to break the clinch but Rua has him pressed against the cage.
Simon swings wildly with an uppercut but Rua uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rua will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Simon up against the cage.
Rua manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Rua manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Simon blocking the ground and pound.
Rua lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua throwing strikes here but Simon is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Rua punching from mount but Simon doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Rua looking to secure an arm triangle but Simon defends it well.
Rua lands a heavy elbow.
Rua throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Rua is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Simon can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rua looking to ground and pound but Simon is blocking nicely.
Rua loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Simon scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Rua land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Rua stands and salutes the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Rua!
