PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Milford Mejia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcin Held (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Milford Mejia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcin Held!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mejia blocks a head kick by Held.
Held looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Held wants to clinch up but Mejia keeps it at a distance.

Mejia closes the distance and clinches.

Mejia pulls guard.

Mejia is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Held avoiding damage as Mejia throws knees to the body.

Mejia manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Held has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mejia is proving hard to escape from.
Mejia controlling the position.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Mejia manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Held is trying to push Mejia away but Mejia has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Mejia jumps guard and drags Held to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mejia could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Held wants to stand but Mejia has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Mejia is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mejia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Held gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mejia gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Mejia decides to pull guard.
Mejia is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Mejia has managed to clinch.
Nice body punch from Mejia - that landed with a thud.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mejia has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Held clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Mejia lands a shot to the head.
Held wants to get back to his feet.
Mejia has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Held's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Milford Mejia dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Mejia moves into range and clinches up with Held.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Mejia.
A hook to the body from Mejia.
Mejia is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Held can do to turn this around?
Held managing to block the knees to the body from Mejia.

Mejia jumps guard and drags Held to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Mejia bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Held's guard.

Mejia lands a couple of elbows.
Mejia controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mejia stops Held from standing up.

Held can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mejia controls the pace.
Held is breathing heavily.
Mejia makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Held wants to stand and escape but Mejia is having none of it.
Mejia engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Mejia gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mejia rushes Held and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Mejia lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Mejia breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mejia shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Held is trying to defend but Mejia finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mejia content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Mejia seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Mejia slows the pace down in half guard.
Mejia looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Held with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Held is looking to get back to is feet but Mejia passes into side control.

Mejia wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Held, who protects the arm well.
Mejia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Held on the ground.
Held tries to escape but Mejia is in control.

Mejia stands up.

Mejia has managed to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mejia's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Held throws a head kick but Mejia moves out of range.
Mejia seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Mejia takes the fight into the clinch.
Mejia scores with a hook to the body.

Mejia jumps guard.
Mejia pulls Held in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mejia looking for a sweep. Not yet Mejia, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Milford Mejia dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Held tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Mejia clinches up against the cage.

Held wanted to stand there but Mejia had control of the position.
Mejia has control of Held's left arm, preventing Held from doing any damage.
Mejia wants to get back to his feet but Held is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Held takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Milford Mejia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Held throws a sloppy head kick

and Mejia counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Held!
Mejia controlling from side mount.
Mejia working the ground and pound.

Mejia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mejia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Held is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Held tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Held is trying to stand up.
Held felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Mejia takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Milford Mejia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Held wants to try and get back to his feet.
Mejia landing punches.
Held is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Mejia sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mejia cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mejia controlling from mount.
Held is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Milford Mejia showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mejia, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
