PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hanzo Hasashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jacobs comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bring your daughter to the Slaughter kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hanzo Hasashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pete Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jacobs swings widly with a right hand

and Hasashi counters with a shoot takedown. Jacobs fights it but they end up in guard.
Hasashi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hasashi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jacobs throws a good cross that connects.
Hasashi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jacobs sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hasashi fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jacobs scores with a shot to the body.
Jacobs throws a jab but it's blocked by Hasashi.
Jacobs throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hasashi changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Hasashi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hasashi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hasashi. Jacobs does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Hasashi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hasashi lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jacobs felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Hasashi controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hasashi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hasashi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Hasashi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jacobs keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jacobs steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hasashi.
Hasashi walks into a stiff left hand from Jacobs.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jacobs throws a body shot but no joy.
Jacobs bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hasashi's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hanzo Hasashi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hasashi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jacobs moves out of range as Hasashi strikes.
Jacobs throws a sloppy body shot

and Hasashi counters with a shoot takedown. Jacobs fights it but they end up in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jacobs can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hasashi working over Jacobs with some ground and pound. Jacobs looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hasashi is taking a breather. Jacobs says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hasashi has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Hasashi.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Jacobs keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jacobs wants to counter with a clinch but Hasashi pushes him away.

Jacobs is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Hasashi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jacobs can do to turn this around?

Jacobs walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Jacobs throws an overhand right that lands on Hasashi's shoulder, as Hasashi tries to avoid the shot.
Jacobs uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hasashi.

Hasashi throws a hook but Jacobs avoids it easily.

Hasashi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jacobs did well to prevent Hasashi getting side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hasashi is working for a kimura but Jacobs is defending it quite comfortably.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Jacobs is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hasashi.
Hasashi is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Jacobs.
Jacobs displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hasashi throws out the jab.

Jacobs tries to throw a body punch but Hasashi avoids it by throwing Jacobs back against the cage.
Jacobs digs a right hand into Hasashi's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hasashi's gas tank.

Hasashi wants to take the fight to the mat but Jacobs manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Hasashi drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jacobs gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hanzo Hasashi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hasashi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jacobs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hasashi tries to score a body lock takedown but Jacobs shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Jacobs is pressed up against the cage. Hasashi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jacobs down to the mat. Jacobs avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Jacobs tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hasashi misses the shot to the body.
Jacobs wants to counter with a clinch but Hasashi pushes him away.

Jacobs throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pete Jacobs comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hasashi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Pete Jacobs was interviewed post fight and said 'I have had bad coaching from my corner and will fire my trainers tomorrow.'.
