PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kasper Saunders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Neil McCauley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kasper Saunders !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neil McCauley!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from McCauley is defended easily by Saunders .
Saunders fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches McCauley on the side of the head.
Saunders takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McCauley.
McCauley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Saunders tries to avoid it but McCauley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Saunders to the ground. Saunders escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kasper Saunders has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Neil McCauley.
McCauley doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Saunders connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Neil McCauley has been cut.
Saunders dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saunders fails to land with a series of punches.
Saunders jabs McCauley to the body, keeping him at a distance.
McCauley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Saunders but Saunders pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A combination from Saunders does no damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Saunders lands a jab to McCauley's midsection.
Saunders throws a leg kick but McCauley sees it coming and moves out of range.

Saunders gets caught flat footed, as McCauley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
McCauley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
McCauley looks winded!

Saunders working for a triangle but McCauley defends it easily.
Saunders utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McCauley missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Saunders throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Saunders working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McCauley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McCauley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Saunders is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McCauley is aware though and is defending well.
Saunders preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Saunders is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McCauley throwing strikes but missing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kasper Saunders is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Saunders gets a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Saunders 's face as he tries to break the clinch.
McCauley is looking for a takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Saunders misses with a hook from the clinch.
McCauley has Saunders pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Saunders manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
McCauley has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Saunders avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
McCauley wants a takedown but no success here.
McCauley goes for a takedown in the clinch but Saunders prevents it.
Saunders lands a shoulder strike.
McCauley wants a takedown.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Saunders is pressed up against the cage. McCauley has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Saunders down to the mat. Saunders avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Saunders throws an overhand right that drops McCauley like a sack of potatoes! Saunders dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kasper Saunders !
