Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charles Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vike Nickolson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Charles Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vike Nickolson!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickolson avoids the head kick by Smith.

Nickolson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Smith misses with a body punch.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nickolson clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.
Nickolson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Smith.
Nickolson throws an elbow but it's blocked.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nickolson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Nickolson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Nickolson is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now.

Nickolson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Smith pulls his leg out and moves away.
Smith throws a right and a left that both miss.

Nickolson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.
Smith is pressed up against the cage. Nickolson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Charles Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vike Nickolson.

Nickolson takes the fight into the clinch.
Smith gets underhooks to prevent Nickolson's takedown attempt.
Nickolson works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nickolson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.
Nickolson misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
Smith is breathing heavily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Smith takes a shot to the head.
Nickolson digs a right hand into Smith's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Smith's gas tank.

Nickolson breaks from the clinch.
Nickolson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nickolson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Smith is looking to counter punch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Nickolson on that attempt.

Nickolson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Smith blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vike Nickolson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Smith lands a nice shot that snaps Nickolson's head back.
Nickolson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nickolson shoots in but no luck this time.
Smith lands with a kick to the temple. Nickolson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Nickolson gets caught napping as Smith dives in and scores a takedown. Nickolson manages to retain guard.
Nickolson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Smith manages to pass to side control.

Smith is trying to control. Nickolson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nickolson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nickolson is trying to stand up here but Smith is controlling him well.
Smith prevents Nickolson from improving his position.

Nickolson makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Charles Smith is winning the standup battle so far.

Nickolson has a takedown stuffed.
Smith seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Smith lands a head kick. Nickolson smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nickolson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Nice body punch from Nickolson - that landed with a thud.

Smith is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Nickolson can't fight it off and eventually Smith manages to take the fight to the floor. Nickolson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Nickolson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Nickolson wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Nickolson checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Nickolson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Nickolson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nickolson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Nickolson is continuing to stall.

Nickolson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nickolson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nickolson somewhat.

Smith is looking to control Nickolson's arms but Nickolson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Smith has his back to the cage.
