PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rod Stiffington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Shimmy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Stiffington might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Boogie Nights. Shimmy has chosen God Save The Queen as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rod Stiffington!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bob Shimmy!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shimmy jabs at Stiffington's body.

Shimmy rushes Stiffington and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Shimmy scores with a nice hook to the head.
Shimmy's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Shimmy lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Stiffington backwards.
Shimmy misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Shimmy lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Shimmy tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Stiffington is looking to take this one to the mat.
Stiffington misses with the head strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shimmy's coach down at Island Top Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Shimmy's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stiffington has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shimmy is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Shimmy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Shimmy fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Stiffington is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Shimmy pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Stiffington back to the cage. Shimmy follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Shimmy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stiffington manages to avoid it.

Oh Stiffington is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

so Stiffington counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Stiffington throwing strikes but missing.
Stiffington seems to have got his legs back now.
Stiffington lands a couple of decent looking shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Shimmy dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Shimmy swings for the body but Stiffington moves out of range.
Stiffington drops down looking for a counter takedown but Shimmy sprawls and moves away.

Stiffington shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stiffington showed some decent athleticism there.

Stiffington is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Stiffington scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Shimmy is rocked!
Shimmy has hold of Stiffington's hands but Stiffington slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shimmy is still in real trouble! Can Stiffington finish him?
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shimmy can do anything to dispel that myth.
Stiffington scores with a big shot! Shimmy's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Shimmy! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rod Stiffington!
Rod Stiffington took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
