PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Brewer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gordus Clay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brewer's entrance music is Gangster's Paradise. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Brewer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gordus Clay!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brewer blocks a leg kick.
Brewer scores with a nice head shot.
Clay misses with a takedown
and Brewer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Clay takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Brewer tries to land a leg kick but Clay saw it coming and moves away.

Clay fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brewer to the ground. Clay is now in Brewer's guard.
Brewer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Clay trying to control but Brewer is working from the bottom.
Clay throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing good reports from Brewer's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Clay has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Frank Brewer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Clay closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Brewer did well to prevent Clay getting side control.

Clay is looking to take a break and control but Brewer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Clay seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brewer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Clay has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Clay stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Brewer.

Clay fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Brewer looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Brewer misses with a short punch on the inside.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Clay dives in and grabs Brewer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brewer pushes down on Clay's head and hops out.
Frank Brewer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gordus Clay.
Brewer throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Clay shoots in looking for a takedown. Brewer tries to sprawl out of it but Clay keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Brewer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A little feinted left hand from Brewer on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gordus Clay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Clay throws a hook to the side of Brewer's head but Brewer sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Brewer lands with a thumping leg kick.
Brewer pivots, looking for a leg kick but Clay is out of range and Brewer settles back down.
Brewer keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Brewer wants to control but Clay postures up.

Brewer is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Clay's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Clay is trying to control the action in half guard but Brewer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Brewer is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Clay jumps into side control!

Brewer buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Brewer.
Gordus Clay is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Brewer on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Clay shoots in and drives through. Brewer sprawls well.
Brewer takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Brewer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Clay dips to his left and cracks Brewer with an uppercut!

Clay feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Clay wants to control from the top but Brewer keeps moving.
Brewer looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Clay puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Gordus Clay comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
