PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Austin Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Galaganokas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Galaganokas has chosen Iron Man as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Johnny Galaganokas told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Austin Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Galaganokas!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniels keeps the fight on the outside.
Galaganokas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Galaganokas tries to clinch but Daniels moves out of range.
Galaganokas moves in looking to clinch but Daniels pushes him off.
Galaganokas moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


It looks like Johnny Galaganokas has been cut.
Galaganokas walks into a left hand.
Daniels keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Daniels misses with a takedown attempt

so Galaganokas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Daniels is looking for a triangle but Galaganokas pushes his legs off easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Daniels fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Daniels postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Galaganokas looks a forlorn figure.

Galaganokas tries to hold on but Daniels pushes him away.
Galaganokas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
BOOM! Daniels connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Daniels throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Daniels jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Galaganokas is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Galaganokas and Daniels has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Daniels throws a strike aimed at the side of Galaganokas's head but Galaganokas avoids it well.
Daniels is looking to take a break and control but Galaganokas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Galaganokas is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Daniels's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Daniels wants to free his trapped foot but Galaganokas is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Daniels has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Galaganokas is looking for a sweep. Daniels is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Galaganokas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Daniels, pushing him back against the cage.
Galaganokas looking to throw knees to the head but Daniels is blocking nicely.
Daniels has Galaganokas pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Galaganokas manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Austin Daniels. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Daniels ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Daniels no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Austin Daniels will probably get the nod.

Daniels is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Galaganokas.
Galaganokas tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Daniels paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Daniels takes an elbow to the forehead.
Galaganokas lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Galaganokas goes for a takedown attempt but Daniels pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Galaganokas gets caught flat footed, as Daniels shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Daniels tries to free his leg and advance position but Galaganokas is retaining full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Daniels looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Galaganokas is breathing heavily.
Galaganokas is refusing to be controlled, as Daniels sits in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Daniels drops down looking for an ankle pick but Galaganokas pulls his leg out and moves away.

Galaganokas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Daniels can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Nice takedown defense from Daniels. No joy for Galaganokas on that attempt.
Galaganokas doesn't manage to clinch there - Daniels circles away.
Daniels lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Galaganokas circles away quickly and effectively.

Daniels shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Galaganokas's guard.

Galaganokas has hold of one of Daniels's legs. Daniels is fighting the takedown attempt but Galaganokas gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Daniels, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
