Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lyle Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Janis Berzins!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Berzins drives through with a takedown into Morgan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Morgan scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Berzins shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Morgan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morgan is on top in guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Berzins wants to get back to his feet but Morgan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Berzins throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Morgan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Berzins won't be happy with that.

Berzins sneaks out the side door and pushes Morgan away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Morgan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Berzins lands a hook to the side of the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Morgan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Berzins avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Morgan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Berzins is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Berzins gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Morgan.

Berzins ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Berzins no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Berzins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Morgan is pressing down on Berzins's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Berzins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morgan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Berzins has managed to get both his arms back between Morgan's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Berzins controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Berzins is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Morgan tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Berzins presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Morgan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morgan is looking for a sweep. Berzins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Berzins wants to take a breather but Morgan is having none of it.

Morgan moves into full guard.
Morgan wants to sweep here but Berzins controlling him for the moment.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Berzins misses with a few strikes there.
Morgan attempts a counter takedown but Berzins avoids it well and moves away.
Berzins misses with a looping right.
Morgan dives in for a single leg takedown but Berzins sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Morgan wants to clinch up but Berzins keeps it at a distance.

Berzins shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Morgan's guard.

Berzins stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Morgan moves into the clinch successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morgan prevents a body shot from Berzins.
Morgan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Berzins after a bit of a struggle.
Morgan tries to pull guard but Berzins won't allow it.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Berzins takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Morgan goes for a takedown attempt but Berzins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Berzins bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Berzins thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Morgan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Morgan.
Berzins lands a couple of digs.
Morgan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Berzins wants to control from the top but Morgan keeps moving.
Berzins working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Morgan's head.
Morgan is trying to keep Berzins in close.
Morgan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Berzins is one step ahead there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Morgan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Berzins's guard.

Janis Berzins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Morgan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Berzins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Berzins looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Berzins drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Berzins gets to mount! Morgan was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Morgan swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Berzins is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Morgan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Berzins is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Morgan is defending well though. Berzins let's go of the attempt for now.

Morgan looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Berzins looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
You can see the frustration on Morgan's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Berzins might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Morgan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
You can see the frustration on Morgan's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Morgan is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Berzins gets his way!

Well Berzins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
