PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Burks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Moncada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gordon Burks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Moncada!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burks shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Burks controlling the action here.
Moncada wants to get back to full guard but Burks has mounted him!
Moncada wants to control but Burks is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moncada defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Burks.
Moncada is in a horrible position here. Burks smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burks controlling the position easily from mount.
Moncada tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Burks can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Moncada is looking to escape.
Moncada tries to lock up and control but Burks gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Moncada is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Burks is staying active.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burks tries to control but Moncada wriggling away.
Burks takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Burks can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Moncada is looking to escape.

Burks is standing up, even though he is in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Burks drives through with a takedown into Moncada's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Burks trying to control the position from guard on top but Moncada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Moncada is trying to control the position but Burks postures up.

Burks wants to control from the top but Moncada keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Moncada throws a sloppy head kick and Burks moves out of range easily.
Burks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Moncada avoids it really well and circles away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Moncada shoots in and bounces Burks off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Burks manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Burks tries to clinch but Moncada is having none of it.

Moncada takes the fight into the clinch.

Burks breaks the clinch.

Moncada closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Burks misses with a punch to the body.
Burks struggles to land a body shot inside as Moncada controls his hands.
Moncada using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Burks has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Moncada is trying to stall.
Moncada is trying to break free.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burks stalls.
Moncada is looking to control Burks's arms but Burks gets an underhook and turns him. Now Moncada has his back to the cage.
Burks wants to stall.
Burks utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Burks has Moncada pressed against the cage.

Moncada has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Burks clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Burks is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.

Burks gets tackled into the cage by Moncada. Moncada maintains the clinch.
Burks slows down the pace here.
Burks scores with a shoulder strike.
Burks misses with a hook to the ribs.
Burks has Moncada pushed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Moncada is trying to push Burks away but Burks has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Moncada working aggressively here.
Burks wants to break free but Moncada has control.
Burks is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Moncada works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Burks has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Moncada off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Moncada fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Burks to the ground. Moncada is now in Burks's guard.

Moncada wants to control from the top but Burks keeps moving.

Burks manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Moncada fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Burks sprawls well initially but Moncada persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Moncada stops Burks from getting back to his feet.
Moncada wants to free his trapped foot but Burks is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Moncada is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Burks defends it well.

Moncada is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burks is staying active underneath Moncada, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Moncada is working for a submission of some sort.
Moncada really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Moncada tries to pass to full mount but Burks defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gordon Burks dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Burks.

Burks tries to keep at a distance but Moncada has taken the fight into the clinch.

Burks manages to break the clinch.

Moncada closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Burks effectively controlling the action here.

Moncada has clasped his hands together around Burks's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burks is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
You can see the frustration on Burks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Moncada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Burks keeps working.
Moncada tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Moncada slows the pace down.
Moncada is looking to take a break and control but Burks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moncada tries to stand but Burks controls the position and pulls Moncada into his guard.
Burks throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Moncada seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Moncada must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Moncada takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Burks shoots for a double leg takedown but Moncada sprawls well. He's pushed Burks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Moncada misses with an uppercut. Burks saw that one coming.

Moncada drives through with a takedown into Burks's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Moncada looking to sit in guard and control but Burks gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Lucas Moncada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Moncada controls Burks momentarily but Burks frees himself.

Burks controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Moncada looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Burks passes into side control.
Burks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Moncada can do to turn this around?
Moncada is trying to improve his position.
Gordon Burks is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Moncada pushes Burks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Burks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

I would just about give that final round to Lucas Moncada.
I think Burks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
