The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gimenez circles away.
Gimenez is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Mendoza gets caught napping as Gimenez dives in and scores a takedown. Mendoza manages to retain guard.
Mendoza throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gimenez escapes and throws Mendoza's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mendoza gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Gimenez gets to his feet and stands over Mendoza, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Mendoza felt that one! Gimenez unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Mendoza from any more punishment!
