PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joni Chivalry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Rancher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Joni Chivalry has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joni Chivalry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tony Rancher!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chivalry throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Rancher.

Chivalry gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rancher trying to control the position from guard on top but Chivalry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rancher tries to free his leg and advance position but Chivalry is retaining full guard.
Chivalry is trying to control the position but Rancher postures up.

Rancher gets to his feet - Chivalry follows without any prompting.
Rancher looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Rancher counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rancher.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rancher drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chivalry manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rancher has Chivalry in his guard.

Rancher throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Chivalry escapes and throws Rancher's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Chivalry tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rancher is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Chivalry wants to control but Rancher is keeping him busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rancher prevents Chivalry from improving position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rancher tries for a takedown but Chivalry circles away easily

and Chivalry counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rancher!

Rancher strikes from the bottom but Chivalry uses the opportunity to move to side control.

Rancher is trying to control Chivalry's posture but Chivalry avoids it.

Chivalry lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rancher down.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Chivalry wants to get back to his feet.
Rancher gets back to full guard.
Rancher trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Chivalry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rancher on the ground.

Chivalry thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Rancher has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chivalry can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rancher wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joni Chivalry will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rancher tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Rancher ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rancher no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Tony Rancher has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rancher thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Chivalry trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Rancher manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Rancher is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Chivalry has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rancher is proving hard to escape from.
Rancher is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rancher winds up and cracks Chivalry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rancher is keen to just control but Chivalry is a slippery customer.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rancher accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rancher connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Chivalry some visible discomfort.
Chivalry tries to buck Rancher off but Rancher is having none of it.
Rancher cracks Chivalry with a big right hand but Chivalry just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Tony Rancher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Rancher has his foot on Chivalry's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chivalry works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rancher tries to clinch but Chivalry is having none of it.

and Rancher counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rancher.

Chivalry has Rancher pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rancher manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joni Chivalry. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rancher has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chivalry uses from the top position.
