PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marquis Reagent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Tickels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tickels has chosen The Killers - Mr. Brightside as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Tom Tickels acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Marquis Reagent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Tickels!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tickels tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Tickels fails with the takedown

and Reagent counters with a single leg into guard. Tickels didn't expect that.
Tickels is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Reagent gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Reagent shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reagent tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tickels knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Reagent is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Reagent stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Tickels to get to his feet.
Tickels checks the leg kick.

Reagent has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Reagent there as he acknowledges the shot.
Tickels wants to clinch up but Reagent keeps it at a distance.

Reagent looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reagent seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Reagent seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Tickels is defending against the submission attempts here by Reagent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reagent performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Tickels wants to control but Reagent is keeping busy.

Reagent winds up and cracks Tickels with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tickels throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Tickels wants to hold on but Reagent pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tickels is in all sorts of trouble here.

Reagent wants to finish this one by submission but Tickels is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Reagent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Reagent's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Reagent closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Tickels goes for a takedown in the clinch but Reagent prevents it.

Reagent gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Reagent seems to be looking for submissions.
Tickels flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Tickels is looking for a sweep. Reagent is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Reagent is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Reagent decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Tickels tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Reagent throws a body kick that misses.

Reagent rushes Tickels and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Reagent stalling the fight.

Reagent escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Reagent clinches up against the cage.

Reagent has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Tickels clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Tickels wants to escape the position.

Tickels trying to control the action but Reagent just sinks the hooks in.
Reagent seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Tickels is really stuck here.
Reagent loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Tickels hold on?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Good control from Reagent.

Reagent is looking for the choke from the back position but Tickels is controlling his hands well.

Reagent biding his time, looking for the opening.

Reagent is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Tickels is defending well though. Reagent let's go of the attempt for now.
Tickels is really stuck here.
Reagent slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Reagent is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tickels can do to turn this around?
You can see the frustration on Tickels's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Reagent has the hooks in. Tickels is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Reagent has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Tickels's body.

Reagent is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Tickels is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Reagent.
The referee is taking a good look at Tickels as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Reagent!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Tickels wants to clinch.
Reagent tries to counter with a takedown but Tickels is quick to defend against it.
Tickels tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reagent paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Reagent takes the fight into the clinch.
Tickels drops down looking for an ankle pick but Reagent pulls his leg out and moves away.
Reagent takes one on the chin but seems OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reagent throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Reagent clinches.

Tickels's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tickels takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Reagent keeps the fight on the outside.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Reagent darts in and clinches Tickels up against the cage.
Reagent misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Tickels.

Reagent works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Reagent is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Reagent pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tickels is keeping the position for now.
Reagent passes Tickels's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Tickels tries to roll over but Reagent keeps him under control.
Reagent is taking a breather. Tickels says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Tickels flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Tickels is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Marquis Reagent overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A nice elbow there by Reagent.

Tickels is in all sorts of trouble here.
Reagent controlling the position easily from mount.
Reagent in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reagent landing punches.
Tickels is looking to get to half guard.
Tickels is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Reagent tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tickels sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Tickels takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Reagent controlling the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marquis Reagent showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Reagent, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
