The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Snake looking to score a takedown here. Fillipe is defending well but Snake drives through and ends up in Fillipe 's guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Fillipe shoots in for a double leg but Snake sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fillipe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Snake defends well and Fillipe ends up having to push Snake into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Snake darts in and clinches Fillipe up against the cage.

Snake is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Fillipe is defending well for now.

Snake wants the takedown. Fillipe is fighting it off but Snake persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Fillipe 's guard against the cage.
Snake in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Snake cracks Fillipe with a solid left hand.

Snake wants to control from the top but Fillipe keeps moving.
Snake makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Fillipe has momentary wrist control but Snake slips an elbow through the middle.
Snake stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fillipe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Fillipe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Snake postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Fillipe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Snake, into his guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Snake stuffs the takedown.
Snake tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Fillipe manages to circle out of the way.

Fillipe has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Snake is landing a low percentage of strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Let's hope that Fillipe has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Snake is looking to control Fillipe 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Snake avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Snake closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Fillipe is trying to control. Snake wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Snake wants to control but Fillipe is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Snake is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Snake tries to score a body lock takedown but Fillipe shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Snake has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fillipe is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
