PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Big Tow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rigan Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Big Tow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Rigan Machado!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machado darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Machado is trying to work for a kimura but Tow is defending well.
Tow wants to get back to his feet.

Tow is defending against the submission attempts here by Machado.
Tow is staying active underneath Machado, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tow tries to kick Machado off but Machado keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Tow definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Machado is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Machado prevents Tow from standing back up.

Machado is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Tow wants to get back to his feet.

Machado wants to work for an arm triangle but Tow is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Tow makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Tow shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Machado manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tow has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Machado looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Machado is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tow is aware though and is defending well.
Tow engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Tow works over Machado with some ground and pound from guard.
Tow lands a couple of digs.
Tow throwing strikes from guard but Machado blocks nicely.

Machado has his foot on Tow's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tow works his way back into a safe position though.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tow passes Machado's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Machado gets back to full guard.
Tow wants to control from the top but Machado keeps moving.
Tow is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Machado is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Machado is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tow wants to get back to his feet.
Tow trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Machado is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tow doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Machado.
Tow tries to kick Machado off but Machado keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Machado wants to pass the guard but Tow is defending well.

Machado is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Tow has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Machado is on him like a limpet, forcing Tow back against the cage.
Tow lands a nice uppercut.

Tow has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Machado is trying to keep an underhook but Tow manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Machado is looking to improve his position.
Machado is still trying to improve position.
Machado on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Tow dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Tow shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Machado's guard.
Tow slips nicely into half guard.
Tow lands strikes from half guard.
Tow is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Machado can do to turn this around?
Tow wants to control but Machado is keeping him busy.
Machado on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Tow prevents Machado from improving his position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Machado manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Tow avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tow trying to control the position from guard on top but Machado is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tow loads up on a big left hand. Machado felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Tow looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Machado can't hide his disappointment, as Tow celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Big Tow!
Big Tow decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
