PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Burke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Avon Barksdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eric Burke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Avon Barksdale!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barksdale tries to clinch up
and Burke counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Barksdale closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burke to the mat! Burke manages to get full guard.
Burke throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Burke is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Barksdale is controlling him.
Burke trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burke avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Barksdale trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Burke really is a fat lump.
Burke will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Barksdale trying to control the position from guard on top but Burke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Burke fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Barksdale sprawls well initially but Burke persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Barksdale tries to roll over but Burke keeps him under control.
Barksdale has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Burke is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burke wants to stand up but Barksdale has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Barksdale trying to hold on to Burke's head to control him but Burke postures up.

Burke is looking for a kimura here.
Burke throwing shots but Barksdale is blocking nicely.
Barksdale wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Barksdale defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Burke.
Despite the aggression on Barksdale's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Barksdale closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Burke did well to prevent Barksdale getting side control.
Burke is trying to escape back to his feet but Barksdale uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Burke is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Burke wants to hold on but Barksdale pushes him away.
We've been informed that Barksdale has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Burke is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Burke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Burke is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Burke wants to control but Barksdale is having none of it.

Barksdale thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Burke's head.
Burke wants to improve his position but Barksdale is controlling well.

Burke is pressing down on Barksdale's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Burke.

Barksdale shoots in and bounces Burke off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Burke is adopting a defensive guard.

Barksdale wants to control from the top but Burke keeps moving.
Burke wants to stand but Barksdale is controlling the position.
Barksdale has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Barksdale throws a big right hand that misses.

Burke wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Burke shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barksdale pinned against the cage. Barksdale gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Barksdale throws a head kick that misses.
Barksdale tests Burke's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Barksdale works over Burke's head and body with a nice combination.

Barksdale darts in and clinches Burke up against the cage.

Barksdale is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Burke wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Burke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Burke jumps guard but Barksdale turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Burke breaks from the clinch.

Barksdale fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Burke sprawls well initially but Barksdale persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Avon Barksdale showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Burke is striking from the bottom but Barksdale uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

Barksdale thows a huge punch but Burke dodges it nicely.
Barksdale has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Burke works to full guard.
Burke has Barksdale pulled in close to control his posture.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Burke trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Barksdale darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barksdale tries to stand but can't do so whilst Burke controls his leg.
Avon Barksdale has got the better of the ground game so far.
Barksdale blocks the strikes from Burke.
Burke trying to control here.

Burke is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Barksdale is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Burke is positioning himself well to prevent Barksdale advancing to mount.
Burke looks like he's trying to stand up.
Burke is doing well to control the position and prevent Barksdale from advancing to side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Barksdale looks to land a body kick but Burke moved away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Barksdale looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Burke!
Burke throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Burke controls the position for a moment.
Burke misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burke regains half guard.
Eric Burke has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Avon Barksdale is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Barksdale is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Avon Barksdale comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Barksdale has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
