PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Damon Walton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Sanna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanna has chosen Walk Pantera as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Michael Sanna was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damon Walton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michael Sanna!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Topper Green and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanna rushes Walton and presses him up against the cage.
Sanna tries to pull guard but Walton forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Sanna breaks from the clinch.
Sanna goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Walton shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sanna napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Walton in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Sanna parries the strikes from Walton easily there. Walton is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Sanna to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walton taking a breather here.
Walton throws a strike aimed at the side of Sanna's head but Sanna avoids it well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Walton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sanna is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Walton asserts his dominance and retains side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Walton decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Walton tries to bum rush Sanna with a series of wild strikes but Sanna uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Walton throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sanna tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Walton is in Sanna's guard.
Walton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Walton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Walton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanna swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Walton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walton working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Walton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sanna throws a jab when Walton was well out of range.

Sanna drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Walton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Sanna passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanna missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Walton kicks Sanna off and gets back to his feet.
Sanna is trying hard to land a takedown here. Walton sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A left lands for Sanna.
Walton goes for a double leg but Sanna avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sanna continues to drive forward.
Sanna shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walton as he jumps to the side.
Walton is looking for a counter combo.
Damon Walton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Sanna.
Sanna fails with an attempt to clinch.
Walton is looking to counter the offense by Sanna and move into the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sanna fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Walton to the ground. Sanna is now in Walton's guard.
Sanna looks winded!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sanna stands up over Walton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Walton preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Damon Walton will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sanna misses with a low kick as Walton jumps back.
Walton appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Sanna shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walton as he jumps to the side.
Sanna has a takedown stuffed.
Sanna shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Walton sprawls well. Walton wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sanna gets slowly back to his feet.
Damon Walton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Sanna.
Walton digs a good body shot into Sanna's ribs.
Michael Sanna seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanna swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Walton has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walton dodges the punch combination from Sanna.
Sanna just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromWalton.
Sanna is breathing heavily.

Walton looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sanna!
Walton just content to control the position.

Walton decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sanna to his feet.

Walton gets the takedown into side control.

Sanna bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Walton gets caught flat footed, as Sanna shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sanna is looking to work some ground and pound but Walton has wrist control.
Sanna stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Walton swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sanna sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Walton doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Sanna paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Walton - great work!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Damon Walton!
In defeat, Michael Sanna stepped up to the mic, saying 'Thats the game'.
